Final drive belt

Tore up my belt today :bang:

It must have only been half inch wide when I got home. It got me home though. Don't you hate riding a bike babying it all the way home waiting for the inevitable to happen looking like you're a first time rider. Fucking shite. I'll have a look tomorrow to see what caused it. I've seriously been considering changing to a chain today but I think I will just replace the belt for now.

thanks for that Shane but I can get a hold of one. Much appreciated.

I don't know what caused it yet - I'll have a look tomorrow

no just me. I took the front pulley cover off yesterday and there was nothing in there so no idea what caused this. I also could not get the swingarm pivot shaft bolt out and I'm slightly worried the bolt may have bent or sheered. This may have caused the belt to run out of alingment. Don't know yet but I'm handing this over to a pro now.

Lee, the reason I am asking is my buddy has an 06K9 and his belt was rubbing the guard right where it comes out of the front pulley cover on the top. His bike has adjustable shocks and they were adjusted all the way in to minimize the space between the fender and tire and was this putting a groove in the top side of the drive belt. We believe that two up was enough weight that when he hit a bump or dip in the road the swing arm would come up and cause the belt to rub. Anyway just something we found and passing it on. Oh I also had trouble getting my swingarm pivot bolt out and I put a little heat on it where it screwed into the spacer and it turned loose. Good luck!

Thanks gents

I don't suppose anyone's manual has any instructions on this? mine certainly doesn't

No I don't have anything in my manual either on the swing arm. But from experience I think you will be better off pulling the starter. That way you can get to the space/tube that goes from one side of the frame to the other. This tube is adjustable and keeps from crushing the frame together when you torque the pivot bolts. Lee this advice comes from my work on my 05 chopper and my buddies 06K9, but I think they are similar in set up.

many thanks RRRuff. With the 05's you just unbolt the starter don't you as in you don't need to take the primary off and remove the jack shaft?

Yes, that's correct Lee, you need to get to that spacer tube and be able to hold it in place and unscrew the pivot bolt and when you go back together you will need to adjust the spacer out snug inside the frame, then tighten up the pivot bolts. Also like I said I had to put some heat on mine on that spacer to get the pivot bolt to turn loose on my right side pivot bolt.
