Factory hole in my starter. Whats it for?

I bought a starter off ebay from a reputable person (on this forum) a couple years ago. The starter body has a hole in it. It goes all the way through. I dont recall the kw's, but they are higher than normal. My factory unit doesnt have this hole. What would this be used for?

Use a 2 part epxoy and seal the hole up.
It has no purpose and will only serve to allow dirt and water into your starter.

Probably used for a over a case mounting point. And to look down the hole and it's just a casting that's sealed off, no dirt will enter the motor body? Ignore it.
