no, what i did was took a old sissy bar i had for a rigid, cut slots where the holes where and welded a tab on the botom so i could slide the bar inbatween the signal and the strut tighten down and the tab on bot pushes aginst the strut to keep it stedy. just something im tryin out and after i put it on i got to thinking it may be to much for the bolts that hold the signal in place. and then thought if i shorten it up it souldnt be that bad.

I would say yea, bad idea those turn signals we not made to be "Load Bearing" know what I mean, the bar its self is kool but not mounted the way you have it get a strut kit and you'll be fine

I understand about being on a budget,, but it could be a safty issue.. eather someone leaning back on it & it breaking.. or falling off in front of another biker & causing a wreck.. be safe...

 I'm no mechanical engineer, though I did drive past a Holiday Inn Express today.
I'd have to concur with the other statements. It looks real cool, I even like the extra tall look, but the risk of losing it is too great. If you are not ever going to have a passenger, it might hang in there, but do you really want to risk possibly dropping it in front of someone. I'd keep it, but with some proper mounting for sure.

If you make a longer bracket you could attatch to the other strut bolts too.
That would spread the load.

yea those tail lights like to come loose,i dont know about your light bolts but mine are drilled in the middle for the wiring, makes for a weakened bolt, just sayn:D

when i first come up with the idea i didn't see any thing wrong with it tell i put it on, then i got to thinking all the things you all have. i have already taken it off. the only other thing i came up with to do is cut it down and weld it to the fender. some times i see fenders on ebay that are prety cheap conpared to a lot of other stuff for the dog so i thought i would maybe get one and when i repaint the bike i will do two back fenders with the same paint job that way if i dont want to run the sissy bar all i have to do is change fenders. now this is realy no big deal because i have to repaint the bike any way but i just painted the tins to get me threw the summer. i will probly just keep a eye out and maybe someone will have one they want to get rid of that i may be able to trade for something.

if your gonna go through the welding trouble you should just fab up some kool mounts and do it right, just sayn, thats i would roll, every time you want to change the look you will have to go through all that touble to remove the fender and possibly scratch it,thats just me:cheers:

I am all for doing it yourself, but this time, I am going to say, "leave it to the experts."

Isn't the rear fender 'glass. (not sure on that year model)

And the bends on the bar are not symmetrical....uh, not sure if it is straight.

Look on ebay for AIH sissy bars. If you can get the footballs and the bar you could do that.

I got their tall bar and the mounts for $80 You will have to drill extra holes somewhere, but it might be better than shorting out your bike when the signals snap off.

Also how did you weld the chrome without the chrome contaminating the weld?

With the struts with the holes, and an 18" sissy bar tightened up as tight as it will go, my sissy bar shakes like a leaf. I like a big tall sissy bar, but beware of the mount.

I would'nt go through all that, just keep you eye out for someone with a used strut kit, problem solved

Street, your probably giving ideas to someone who's trying to get rid of his ole lady. Step 1: up life insurance
2: install sissy bar
3: Go for ride w/ OL on busy highway during rush hour
4: .........

I'm having the same issue with my 04 Ridgeback, BDM discontinued the sissy bar for this model, which included new struts for mounting. So now, if we want one, we're kinda stuck fabbing ourselves. I just ordered a sissy bar for a 2009 Coyote and will have a fab shop weld two sockets on the struts. But I agree with the others, can't really tell by the pics, but would be worried about it supporting a passenger.
