Extended Forks Illegal in Utah? Help!

Just got off the phone with a buddy. The only other guy I know with a Big Dog he just got turned away from a major auto chain when he went to get inspected. They told him Utah passed a law making motorcycles with extended forks Illegal. Anyone know anything about this? I can't find anything online but he got turned away just today, they "gave him a break" by not noting his registration as rejected and just didn't enter anything.

I've been pouring over the utah legislature website and can't find anything regarding motorcycle forks, custom motorcycle, choppers you name it. I'm pretty certain this is going to turn out that some manager at this store got mixed up when reading a memo from corporate or something. I'll let you know what I find out.

I guess my question would be is he running with the stock forks or did he put some after market forks on the scoot?

BULLSHIT!! I live in Utah. Why would you go to a "major auto chain" to get inspected?

My tire shop who does inspections know me and trust me that my chop (which I built and which has Hawg Halter 5 degree trees, 8 up 4 out softail frame with 38 degree neck, 10 over tubes) is in top shape. They never hassel me). AND when I got it registered as a special construction in '08 UT DMV only asked for a picture and an inspection by a LEO (any LEO) and never gave me any shit.

This has got to be BS especially since like others have said, BDM bikes have been legal all along!

We have a law where your forks can't be more than 820mm measured from the bottom of the triple trees to the centre of the front axial without anyone on the bike. The K9 measures 840mm. I got hasseled once on a roadside safety inspection but the cop never measured it. He just said because i was driving normal and not performing he let me go. Yet the bike made all the requirements of a provincial safety inspection in order to get registered. The cops just write tickets, and then it is up to you to fight it.

I should have said major auto maintenance chain, I don't recall what he said I was a little flustered it may have been Big-O tires. I'll talk to him tomorrow and see if he has found out anything. I'm willing to bet if he went anywhere else it would be fine, I'd like to call that place and see what they have to say.

I also live in Utah
when I get my inspected they just ask me if my blinkers work
then the ask me why i bring the bike, I have two vettes 70 ,71
they always ask why i do not just make one trip and bring in the paper
work and get all three done at the same time......
tell him to find a better shop...FAST

:confused:Really! I also heard that you have to pay for Obama Care 5 years in advance and if you can pay, you can get your medical plan from Wal-Mart:roll::roll:Maybe you should move.:D

Just go to a family owned tire shop and get it inspected it's not a problem that bike will pass any inspection. Your local goverment doesn't even know what extended forks are. That's why I'm thankfull to live in Arkansas.

Go somewhere else for this inspection.
