I need the 2 small aluminm tue parts inside the drive gear of the starter to order because they got misplaced while I was waiting for my starter to be rebuilt. Thanks in advance for any and all help.

not it Mike but thanks for trying; gonna go see the local S&S Guru and see if he has any Dogs pulled apart so I can get a picture of the parts to fax to Donna at Big Dog Parts King. When I get this sorted out I'll put some pictures up. Thanks again

I believe the part that I need is refered to as the jackshaft coupler and then there is a light guage sleeve inside also that I haven't found out the name of yet. The hunt continues!

Gottaflirt

Leaving it all behind
The other day I went to start my 07 K-9 (It usually starts right away) and it cranked a few seconds and when I tried it again it started clicking. I stepped off the bike and had smoke coming out from under the seat. when I looked at the battery the postive lug was melted off the battery. I couldn't find any damaged wires so I charger up another battery and installed it. when I tryed to start it it clicked a few times and I saw smoke coming from the neg battery cable. Has anybody had a similar experince or any ideas what is wrong?

I havent had that problem on a bike but have on cars. I believe that means your starter has shorted (if I remember right it is the windings) or the relay between the start switch and the starter. The pos side melted because it was pulling so much amperage. When you fixed it with a new cable (less resistance) then the neg probably started going because it was full bore through the starter...
Anyway I think that is right, it's been a long while thankfully. Hopefully it did not do any other damage.
I would start by checking relay then checking the resistance or take starter to a good electrical motor shop to have them check it.
