Exhaust location

Energy One

I was just wondering if any one could give me a clue as to why my exhaust pipes run up hill so much. I realize they are more than likely supposed to be on a soft tail but could the angle that the engine sits in the frame at be so much different in the Big Dog?

This is the pic from the Vance and Hines web page.Notice how they run parallel to the swing arm.

And this is how they look on my bike. They run up hill so much that the passenger foot peg will not go all the way down.

Any one have any ideas?

Just a guess here...

Harley twin cam 88 shown?
is not the same fitment as
S&S 107 shown?

as far as exhaust manifold port placement in jugs...
maybe ask manufacturer; why _____ ?

...or exhaust gaskets not seated correctly or old ones still in there "smashed crooked"?

Hard to say with out being there first hand...

RETIRED
You might try slacking off the nuts and rotate the pipes out at the front. This will level them up a bit. Might be worth a try

Looking forward to retirement
The other thing. I found out on a soft tail if your shocks are bad the pipes will sag in back. Are these new Heavy duty shocks .

I just had the shocks rebuilt. The picture in front of the garage door was from last year. I think the new shocks are making it worse though like you said. I am considering a new two into one exhaust system but if it is not going to fit right I will just save the money.

Thanks for the reply guys. I took them back off and double checked everything. They are still about the same. Maybe when I get back to work I will look at something different.

You might have to build a custom bracket if u wanna lower them, just make sure u loosen up the front, every after market set of pipes I installed on my bikes I had to fabricate a bracket to make it fit to my liking, good luck.
