Exciting Andy News!

Exciting Andy News! - Plus Update as of noon Today

I saw Andy after work (of couse) and he didn't have his feeding tube or his ventilator any more! He had a tray of soft food in front of him! Wow what a sight for my eyes! He couldn't coordinate the fork with the food or manage to get it to his mouth, so I fed him a small amount. His first food in a month and a half! He was angry that I had to feed him but I was just too happy to help him. He said gruffly though his trach that they ask him to write his name and mine on a piece of paper but he couldn't do it. He said he knew how to spell them but for some reason his hand couldn't write them. I told him it will come in time with therapy. All of this tired him out and he was in pain so he got a pain pill and went to sleep. He is improving so much it amazes me!

Thank you all for your prayers and support!
You guys and girls are wonderful. Thank you for being our friends!

That's great news Cindy, will continue to pray for a speedy recovery. I bet he's happy to get rid of that darn tube...:2thumbs:

Happy....

Happy about the good news. One of my younger brothers was in CCU for 6 weeks following a bike crash years ago. Once he got where he could write, it made communications with the doctors, nurses and family much, much easier.

Great news, and speaking from experience you told him correctly, All that stuff will return in time and practice. Everyday it will get a little better as time goes by and then one day it will just be like normal again. Even if there was not any brain damage, all those little movements that it takes to just feed yourself, have to get back in practice. Walking and balance might be tricky too for little while, and getting frustrated should be expected. Think about it, Andrew has eaten real food in a long time, even hospital food looks and smells good. Those little movements we take for granted that it takes to get food into our mouths aren't co-operating now. They haven't been used at all in a long time!! They have to get back in practice. Encourage Andrew every opportunity you get, and you can mark my words , Andrew will make a full recovery but not tomorrow or maybe even next month. It will all come back with use,a little time, and as much encouragement as possible. I told you about the shirt my wife picked up that shirt for me. Here is a picture of it. If you can't find it let me know what size to get and I'll send Andrew one. My wife still cuts up my salad,:), and no I am not milking it, she is a good one too.

Ray :2thumbs: Still praying with Expectation of a Full and Complete Recovery!
