He didn't find a BDM tank on J&P's site, make sure he understands you want OEM parts, not shitty knock offs. Send him to Big Dog Performance Products and let him price out the parts there. It's kind of sounding like you need to lawyer up, or at least threaten this guy you will.

Your best bet is to take the bike to a shop and have them to give you a total estimate of the repair cost. Most of insurance would go with it.

KD, who's telling you this, your insurance agent or the a$$hole who wrecked your bike? Either way, I would definitely listen to the advice you're getting from much of the BDB community - It would be in your best interest to CONSULT A LAWYER. The initial consultation is usually free. Billy I would tell him that I wanted it replaced with parts back to the standard it was,not with cheep parts and parts that would have to be made fit like the tank would be and for the wheels it he wanted to do comparable wheels go to some of the top name brands and you won't be screwed.And get a est. from some one like Ed on here for your paint and do an est. of your own on the bike and if he is way off Id get a lawyer.

She insurance agent is now a motorcycle repair expert? Going to nickle dime you on the cost of repairs and sounds like with so with out considering the whole picture (i.e labor-OEM Parts, etc). Does not sound like a good road to start down.

Hopefully the get it straight and you get it taken care of, but if I heard some of the nickel-dime crap from my insurance agent, would be pissed. Then again my insurance agent may not cover it since I would have let an unlicenced driver use my bike, so maybe a wash-put up with the low balling on the claim, but they are paying the claim.

You should not even have to speak to the insurance adjuster. Assume your bike is repairable. What shop works on Big Dogs/custom choppers will do your repairs? That's where your bike needs to be and the shop owner should be the person making the estimates, not some insurance adjuster with Harley blinders on. The shop knows how much labor is involved for a total strip down/powdercoat/complete assembly. The shop should know where to get prices for Big Dog parts and the shop should have an artist that can give an estimate to duplicate your paint job. The only time you should be talking to the adjuster is after he has his estimate from the shop and makes a decision to repair or total.

The guys are right- the insurance companies do not have custom parts pricing- and your BDM is a custom bike. My progressive guy is smarter than the average bear- he does go to BDPP and check pricing, but your adjuster may not know to do that. You can get a frame powdercoated for that price, but I would charge 40 hours labor to R&R all the parts. That's $3400 on it's own! They try to argue with me about that, but I just tell them that I would like to see them strip down the bike, remove the engine, tranny, wiring systems, and then put it all back together- (wiring is huge) in less time. I usually win. :up:

Kona dawg, you would be a fool not to send the estimate you receive to Amy so that a "professional" custom bike repair shop can review for accuracy. DO NOT RELY ON AN ADJUSTER TO GIVE YOU AN ACCURATE ESTIMATE WITHOUT THE INPUT FROM A BIG DOG REPAIR FACILITY. It's like comparing apples to oranges. They don't compare. You get to choose the shop that does repairs, not the insurance company. 99% of the time, the adjuster is in agreement with the shop's estimate.
