EPA/Restricted Gee Whiz...

So I have been searching and reading as much as I can but I cannot find or understand what if any EPA limiting features my motor has. It is an 09' Mastiff with the Carb 117. From what I gather my only limiting feature should be my cams? But I am hoping someone would be nice enough to clarify for me...thanks in advance!!

I think the EPA restricted bikes are from 05-07. I know your cam is smaller than my 05 but that is the only advantage I have. I have the smaller carb, intake, and heads. There where even restrictor plates in the intake as well.

I would think your cam is a 546. I changed mine out to a 585 and that pepped her up a bit...

believe the jugs are a little taller lowering the compression a little. if you step up the cam, you may have to step up the springs also if you go above a .585.

Well put wood!

Do not forget to open up the exhaust if the cam is changed, re-jet carb...:2thumbs:

My 08 is the same as the 09.
I took out the 546 cam and put in a 585.
I made the exhaust less restrictive and jetted the carb.
It Definitly has more power now.
I chose the 585 so I didn't have to change springs.
Eventually I would like to cut the jugs and add a programmable ignition.
My 08 also has stamped rockers. When I find a good deal I would like to pick up some roller rockers.

I beleive the unraped specs for the 117 are 10.2-1 compression, .600 cam and G- carb.

To get back to that is .040 off of the jugs to raise compression. replace cam, replace valve springs (your single wound are rated for .585 max cam), programable ignition to advance your timing a bit.

If you do the work on the jugs you can change gaskets and do headwork to exceed specs as many have done. Also go with more than .600 cam if desired.

Just note that your Baker clutch basket, bearing and hub may/will not hold up over continued enjoyment.

"600" Camshaft

"V" has pretty well covered the whole story but, by all means, change out the stock Baker "9" Disc Clutch and Bearing Carrier. They are the weakest-link in the whole DSSC drivetrain on our Big Dogs; IMHO.
I use the Bandit Bruiser clutch which was recommended to me by our fine brother Bobby Schulz. The Bandit clutch and bearing carrier are more than capable of all that "V"`s recommended mods will produce, and then some. This single modification alone will avoid a myraid of breakdown problems. Many of us would`a, could`a, should`a changed out that weak-link earlier avoiding so many expensive headaches.

Awesome!! Thanks for all the info and ideas, I think I will swap out to the 585 cam so I don't have to do a lot of work up front. My bike came new with double radius exhaust and rejet carb, any opinions on if I will need to rejet the carb for the cam again? Thanks!!
