Enricher or no enricher

barhopper

Another round please
No enrichener if it starts without it. I myself give the throttle 2 cranks, pull the enrichener as I start it. I let go of it as soon as it fires.

What Barhopper said.....I also use the enricher if I don't want to stand there with my hand on the throttle to keep it running until it warms up.

Always best if your dog will start without using the enrichener. For some, it causes the plugs to foul. Like suggested, a couple turns of the throttle will usually be enough to start most bikes. Perhaps in extreme cold (which we rarely get in the south), you may want to use the enrichener just long enough for the bike to fire off, then push it back down as soon as the bike is running.

If your dog is properly tuned, the enrichener will not be needed.

Almost everyone I know has always said "NO ENRICHENER", just two pre-cranks on the throttle. I did use my knob the other day it was around 40 degrees and the bike failed to start with just the crank of the throttle. The manual tells you to use it, everyone else, techs and owners will say don't.

Experiment, every bike is slightly different. I always use mine when cold, close it when it starts, use throttle till bike warms slightly, go like hell.

STARTING PROCEDURE (FROM OWNERS MANUAL)

COLD STARTING PROCEDURE:

MAKE CERTAIN THE MOTOR CYCLE IS IN NEUTRAL.
TURN FUEL PETCOCK TO THE ON POSITION.
SET HANDLEBAR ENGINE STOP SWITH TO THE RUN POSITION.
TURN IGNITION SWITCTH TO THE ON POSITION.
PRIME THE MOTOR WITH (2) TWISTS OF THE THROTTLE.
LIFT UP ON CARBURETOR ENRICHINER.
DEPRESS START BUTTON FOR NO MORE THAN (5) SECONDS AT A TIME UNTIL THE ENGINE STARTS.

IMPORTAT: IF THROTTLE IS OPENED WHILE ENGAGING THE STARTER,
COMPRESSION WILL INCREASE DRAMATICALLY CAUSING THE STARTER TO KICK BACK AND POSSIBLY PPRODUCE A STARTER RELATED FAILURE.

KEEP THE ENGINE RUNNING AT FAST IDLE OR 1500 RPM USING THE THROTTLE. DEPRESS THE ENRICHENER BACK TO THE PRE START POSITION WHEN THE ENGINE HAS ACHEIVED A CONSTANT AND STEADY SPEED.
IF THE ENRICHENER IS LEFT IN THE STARTING POSITION,THE SPARK PLUGS MAY FOUL, CAUSING POOR ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
ALLOW ENGINE TO WARM UP FOR APPROXIMATELY 3 TO 5 MINUTES BEFORE RIDING.

NOTE: A BATTERY DISCHARGES APPROXIMATELY 1% PER DAY. IF YOUR MOTORCYCLE IS NOT RIDDEN FOR A MONTH, THE BATTERY MAY NOT RETAIN ENOUGH CHARGE TO START YOUR MOTORCYCLE. FOR THE OCCASIONAL RIDER, USING AN APPROVED TRICKLE CHARGER IS RECOMMENDED.

HOT ENGINE START:

SAME PROCEDURE AS COLD START EXCEPT DO NOT PRIME THE ENGINE WITH (2) TWISTS OF THE THROTTLE AND DO NOT ENGAGE THE CARBUETOR ENRICHENER. Load bike and take to Florida.

Enrichener works great for me...No issues but I also do not leave it engaged for more than a couple of seconds...
