Is it threaded the same direction as the clutch nut

No. The crankshaft nut is leftyloosey rightytighty. In fact I can’t think of any other nut/bolt on the bike that is right hand thread except the clutch hub nut.

If I'm reading your post correctly I think your saying the clutch nut is a right hand thread which is incorrect. It's a left hand thread which tightens by turning to the left. Your advice to Mike was correct though.

Thanks for the correction...well you’d think I’d know better after all these years...I meant left hand thread. That’ll teach me to proof my work...
