Backwards is if the seal was installed like the one hanging on the sprocket shaft.(Flat metal facing out).
Personally I've never found a difference in sealing quality,IF you don't have big leakdown or restricted breathing capability. Prolly pass more oil down the splines than from the seal.

That makes sense. I have been trying figure out why I can't stop the oil leak coming from my starter. So I thought I would replace this seal to be sure I am not venting into my primary.

:flag:Hey John, why couldn't one upgrade to a double lip seal and avoid flipping it when you switch from one drive to the other? I was told if you flip a single lip seal you allow less resistance for fluids to enter or exit depending on which way the lip is pointing. Just a thought.:up:
