Electrical problem

I just bought a 06 K9 with about 5500 miles on it. The bike has spent its whole life about 100 miles from the gulf coast so there is some corrosion going on. Sometimes the bike fails to start. When this happens there is no clicking at all and there are no light on the control box when you push the run button. Once it does decide to start one light will come on on the control box and the bike will start and run fine until it decides to do it again. I just replaced the battery . Do I need to go ahead and replace the EHC and if so is this something I can do myself. I've been wrenching on bikes most of my life so I know my way around a bike pretty good but I've never attempted to rewire a controller. By the way I checked the run/stop button and the start button with an ohm meter and they checked good.

Could be your ignition switch. If you wiggle the key while it's running will the bike cut off? If it does then you might want to change out the ignition switch. Just a quick and easy check!

If the problem is intermittent, I would check for such things as shorts and loose grounds. If the EHC goes, you will usually have a continuous problem.

Time, Vibration, Moisture, and more can lead to loose connections.

I would start with cleaning and re-tightening all the accessible connections, especially the ground connections. If the problem persists, then start checking for hidden problems like handlebar control buttons and wiring to the ignition, coil, plugs, headlight, etc.

When this happens, the headlight and speedo will be on,just no lights on the EHC, I've noticed to when this is going on the signal lights will not blink either

As this Dog has seen much salt air, I would start by going thru ALL related switches and clean them, then dielectric grease each one. Its a short/bad connection somewhere, just gonna take time and effort to isolate it. Good luck and keep us posted.

my skoot, with almost 16k on the clock, has spent it's entire life less than 1 mile from the coast (at least where it is parked in the garage) with none of these problems yet. something that might be of concern that close to the Gulf coast, has it been underwater at any point in it's life? at any rate, as stated before, clean all the connections and pack them with di-electric grease. might not fix the problem, but sure won't hurt anything.

Well I think I'm going in the right direction, I pulled the gas tank and started cleaning and greasing connections, after every connection I tried to get a light on the EHC. When I got to the big plugs on the EHC and cleaned them I finally got a light when I pushed the run button. Haven't tried to start it yet. I'm gonna clean every connection I can find while I've got it down this far. But before when I would get a light on the EHC it would start and run fine. Thanks for everyones input ! All I've got to do when I get it running is start polishing about 5 years of tarnish off all the polished aluminum ,what I don't have chrome that is. Lol
I'm hoping when I get it all done I still got the bargain I thought I did.
