Electrical problem?

My 04 Ridgeback finaly crapped out on me. While riding up a steep grade, the speedo went out, followed by the tach. It then started running rough and died. Now it has no juice and oly the oil light will come on, very faintly.

The battery is fairly new and been on a trickle charger, which shows it still fully charged.

Any thoughts or suggestions? I remember reading some time back these bike had problems with the computer?

Thanks in advance!

Did you post this on Clubchopper today?

Got to do some reading starting in the techincal section.

Has your battery been load tested? Just cause it's charged doesn't mean it goos.
What lights did you have on the EHC when it went out? When you cycled the key switch what lights did you have?
How is that key switch? Got lots of keys hanging off it?
Have you fiddled with the electrics? Changed lights, horn anything else that would cause havic with the EHC?

I know it's lots of questions but you didn't give us enough info to help you out.

But sounds like your new battery is not any good!

Oh, welcome to our site. Please go to the Into section and introduce yourself and tell us where you are from.

Good luck,
Ray

Yeah I did post on club chopper...someone suggested posting here to as it was more specific to BD motorcycles.

I havnt done anything to the elctronics on the bike. The only light that will come on is a very faint oil light when the key is turned on; no other lights will come on. The bike ran fine for about 50 miles then crapped out on my ride home.

Ok, start with a new battery. Check out the tech section for a diagnostic sheet that can help you pinpoint problems. Down load it and then get your bike on life support (Battery Tender) and call us in the morning! :D

Not making fun just sounds like a cheap or dead battery so if any thing load test it and see if it's holding a charge. Also, check you battery connections as they work loose weekly.

Good luck,

Agree with Ray on the battery being the first likely culprit. Especially with a faint oil light showing.

Also if the battey in your ride the original by chance. Even with a Battery Tender, I do not put much faith on a AGM battery past about 2 years myself.

Let us know how you make out and Welcome to the Pound.

I would check to make sure the Voltage Regulator is putting out. No reason for it to run the battery down as you are riding.

I agree with Alicat... check the system first. Remember if you jump start it... car off (not running).

Also, I would check the circuit breaker to be sure its not poped and therefor not charging the battery. If it is, the bike will run off battery power with nothing re-charging it.. it will run for a while then poof.

well Im probably going to be shop-bound. I tried charging the battery, as well as connecting a battery jump box to try and get it started. The jump box gives me a head light and lets the bike turn over, but all it sounds like is something spinning. Its like it wont engange, and it wont do anything just on the battery power alone.
