electrical issues

Hi, new to the forum (and Big Dog). Have a 2004 Pitbull. In TN.


I rode my 2004 Pitbull to work, everything was fine. Got ready to leave, turned the key on, hit the starter, lights flickered, battery dead. Bought new battery, put it on and now nothing works when you turn the key on. Sparks when you hook battery cables up and the LED's on the EHC flash once. No lights of any kind, no horn, nothing. It will turn over when you hit the button on the starter solenoid but will not start. Any ideas?

Battery just off the rack or was it charged and tested? Lots of bad batterys just sitting on racks. What kind of Battery? How many CCA's?

the battery is an agm super start from ozark. 325 cca's. i got it 3 weeks ago. it was already charged and i've had it on a tender since the bike hasn't been running. when you hook it up it will spark and led's on the computer flashes once. the red light on the ignition module doesn't come on either. the day that i rode it to work the battery was fully charged when i left home but something caused it to drain during the day. i appreciate any input.

You might want to start looking for shorts in the electrical system. Don't over look the obvious, did you hook the wires back to the battery correctly, check your groud at the starter.

Connect a DVM (digital volt meter) and set it up to read high 10 amps of DC CURRENT and connect it between the battery + terminal and the + connections of the harness. This will show you how much current the bike is pulling through the harness. Normally sitting with key off you could see less than 100ma or so.

Could be a harness short or the voltage regulator went bad. Maybe disconnect the VR or remove the fuse? from it and try battery again.

thanks for the input. i gave up and took it to the dealer. the ehc has gone bad and now i'm waiting on the wireplus to be installed.
