Electrical help please

My buddy just bought a Big Dog chopper and needs some help. When he picked it up the tach and L.E.D. lighting worked, then he said the battery connection was loose so he tightened it and there was some sparking as he wiggled the ground. Now the tach and L.E.D.'s are not working. Any help on tracking down the possible cause wouls be appreciated. I am going over there in a few days to help find the problem.

if i was a betn man i would bet that if you do an intro before intro:dupe:gets you someone on here will chime in and give you the fix,just sayn:whoop:

This is the most proper and etiquette demanding site on the earth. Do a search on here and you will find alot of info. Lots of guys here know thier shit. Best of luck and let us know what the results and fix was.

No one is demanding, yet we are asking as we would love to read who it is we are sharing our world with and give respect to the new member of said family.
Respect is given to those that give Respect unless it is proved otherwise.

So yes, we do ask for an INTRO, and yes, everyone is generally more than happy at offering advice. We also ask that a SEARCH is performed as most any issue that can come up has already been covered and generally the answer has been given.

I would be curious to know more about the sparking from a loose cable. Got pics and what year bike/model is it?

Tezzman, perhaps you could also get yopur Big Dog buddy hooked up on this site and we look forward to both Intros, and then we will all go for a group ride. There are a LOT of Big Dog Owners in your area.

Un hook the battery let the EHC reset, charge the battery and have it load tested then hook it up and Do a Fucking intro then give it a try!:2thumbs:

Hey guys, sorry for starting without a intro. I should have known better but I decided to start this thread last minute just before leaving for work. So here is my late intro.

I have been riding for 16 years with some track days mixed in and have owned a bunch of different sportbikes but never a cruiser. I love all bikes. My current bike is a Yamaha R1. I am a member of a bunch of motorcycle forums and do all my own work even if it ends up costing me more in the end I won't give up. I have wrote a couple How To's for other forums and just enjoy talking bikes whenever I get the chance. I never thought I would make the switch to a cruiser until I saw the Big Dog in person. What a awesome bike! I started checking craigslist right away but I don't think I can swing it. Hopefully down the road I'll pick one up.

The bike with the electrical problem looks like a K9 chopper but I won't know for sure until tomorrow when I go over there to work on it. I will start by unhooking battery and checking the connection. Any fuses that I should look for? I don't even know were they are? lol

Thanks for all the replies and I will tell my buddy to join. Looks like a great site.

Make sure that battery has a very good charge before hooking it back up and remember all bike batteries need to stay hooked up to a battery tender when sitting in the garage.

In this economy, you may be surprised at some of the deals out there.

If the Bike still has the EHC on it, it's important NOT to attempt to start the bike unless the battery is fully charged. Low voltage batteries have been un officially the cause of electronic component failure internal to the EHC. I know first hand.

Well I just got back with no luck. I do have more info if anyone can help that would be great. The bike is a 2006 Ridgeback. We unhooked battery and checked for any bad wire connections with no luck fixing the problem. The battery is working fine, the bike starts right up and everything works great EXCEPT horn, highbeam lights, tach, front blinkers (they light up but don't blink) and aftermarket LED's that look to be wired directly to the battery. The bike's EHC lights up red when the bike is running and looks to be original with 2006 stamped on it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, my first thought was fuses but I couldn't find any? Could it be the EHC?

it could very well be the ehc.the ehc controls all of that,could be a ground problem also,the aftermarket leds,you talking like lighting up areas of the bike?

did you unhook the ehc connector and look for corrosion,should also have dielectric grease in the connector
