EHC?

2006 k-9. No power. was out on a ride the other day. After shutting the bike off i tried to restart it. All it did was click. I had to trailer it home. Put it on a battery charger. Still nothing. The battery is a month old..... long story short... it's bad. while trying to start it the lights stopped working. I have no power. I installed a new battery. I can jump the solenoid on the starter and it now cranks but no power. The old battery apparently shorted. I think it fried the ECM. Any way of testing it??

if your voltage regulator went bad, that could have messed up your battery and the EHC. There was a recall to replace the big relay by the EHC with a big fuse for just this reason. If yours has the fuse, then the recall work was performed. if it has the fuse but the fuse isn't blown, it is not the voltage regulator. If you still have the relay, take it out and replace it with a 30 amp fuse and do not run the bike with the regulator hooked up untill it is tested.

If it was running fine when you shut it off, the EHC should be ok. Make sure all the power and ground wires to the battery are connected back the way they came off, you may have missed one. If that doesn't do it then check all the connections that may have been disturbed when changing the battery. You should get one red light on the EHC after you turn on the key and press the run button. if you don't press the run button after the key is turned on, you won't have power to anything but the headlight.

Thanks for the reply bearman. The bike was running fine. When I tried to start it all I got was a clicking sound. I put it on a charger and tried to start it. All lights and digital speedo were working but flickering when I was trying to get it started. They all went out and nothing!! I had a vmaxtanks battery in it. I went yesterday and picked up a harley battery. That solved my voltage problem but still no power. I think I shocked the computer when I tried to jump it. I have no lights at all on the EHC

I should also mention that I used a jump box to try to get it home (was broke down in a parking lot). After I trailered it home I put a meter on the battery. It read 12.7 volts. The voltage dropped to 2 volts when I tried to start it. I thought it was the solenoid. Pulled the starter and bench tested it. It was ok. I removed the battery and bench tested the starter with that battery. Same thing, the voltage on the battery dropped to 2 volts. Battery was shot. After installing new battery No power at all. I jumped the solenoid and it now cranks but still no power anywhere. I guess the shock from jumping it and the bad battery may have fried the EHC.
