I have an 04 pitbull I recently purchased and reAding up on the big dogs and also reading these post . I am curious as to what the EHC is and what its purpose is.

I read on here there was a recall on the 04 and the guy I bought it from says he had problems with the electrical and says they replaced the computer.

What I read , it is the module with the leds , so I looked under the seat and there is one with 18 led s , as far as what i have seen , the 04 only had 10 so figure this must be the newer one?

I been on a few short rides and all seems to be fine but I am curious what its purpose is and how long they normally last?

Any info would be appeciated,

Marc

Marc, there is no such thing as a normal life for the EHC. It can go out at anytime it feels. Your best bet to a healthy scoot is to keep the thing on a tender. Weak batteries seem to create problems. As long as you keep your battery healthy, you should be good. Also keep the underside of your seat dry, the EHC and electrical connections hate moisture...:2thumbs:

Hey Marc,

I have an 04 as well. Yes there was a recall in March of last year if I recall correctly. It was on the 04 models and their main power wire harness would wiggle its way loose, and not keep a tight connection. Basically you would be riding down the road and all power would be shut off to the bike (ask me how I know..haha). The problem would be intermitent as well. Shortly thereafter Big Dog closed it doors and I just happened to buy my bike a week before. So didn't get to take them up on the fix, nor could I find any info regarding what the fix actually was:bang:

Would you mind taking a picture of your new computer? I would like to see what they stuck in your bike. My old EHC is sitting on my workbench 18 LED's sounds like more than I had, 10 seems about right. I can check later.

My advice if everything is working properly no need to F with it. Just for peace of mind unhook the main power harness pack the SHIT out of it with Di-Electric grease and hook it back up. That should help keep the moisture out. :D

Let me know if you end up with any issues I've been through my 04 electrical thoroughly. I just put in a Wire Plus, as I had the problem with the main power harness coming loose. My EHC worked fine though, I ziptied my pain power harness to the EHC it self and that actually worked perfectly. I just decided to go Wire Plus as I assumed the ZipTie wouldn't last forever. Although hell it may have lasted years:confused:

Thanks for the info I appreciate it!

I did some research on the bike before I bought it this past January and did hear about the recall and when I went to check out the bike the day I bought it and even before I asked, the owner told me he had problems with the electrical and while it was under warranty they ended up replacing the computer.

I did some more research afterwards and yes I believe the 04 did have the 10 led but noticed on my bike it has the 18 led, that must be the replacement ehc. I have some diagrams I will try to send in this msg if you dont get them let nme know and send me your email address so i can send them that way.
Marc

I will definitly get some of that grease you suggested

Hi Guys, I have a 2004 Chopper, when I took my bike in to have it done, it was just to just to put a tie wrap around the EHC/harness, that was it!
