EHC?

Energy One

So I'm at a light today and the bike just shuts off. When I turn on the key the lights, speedo etc work but there are no lights lighting up on the EHC. The bike turns over but I have no spark. So I do some investigating and I find that the studs that bolt my EHC to the frame are broken off. Could this have damaged the EHC? Could it be something else?

Holy shit, I would think that it needs to be grounded. Try grounding it see if it works, if it does solder a wire to the bottom and ground the wire. Good Luck

I was thinking the same thing. Wonder if I should JB weld it and try it again, or just bite the bullet.

Not sure if the case is grounded or not for there is a dedicated ground wire running to it. The studs breaking off have been known to occur before and others have ran a zip tie around it to hold in place, also seem to recall that someone put a piece of velcro on the back and the frame and use that.

That said, would think it would be okay if it was only the studs, however, the potting may have got damage and created a problem with some of the circuits or something.

Would recommend before tossing it, that seal the holes with some non-conduction silcon, mount it and then check all the wiring and connectors and see what happens.

Good luck!

why not weld a replacement stud back to the back. The EHC is potted in a thermal epoxy and can tolerate the heat needed. Or if you wish, send me a pm and we will arrange for you to send to me. I put studs back on it and send it back. You pay postage both ways and I am good...

I do not thing it is damaged. It's best to stay with your original ehc, if you got a new ehc then it has potential for other problems <long story on my HID not working in ehc #2 or #3 but was working fine on #1 (which had a broken bolt problem like this).

Well it looks like I'm screwed. Bigdog doesn't have any EHC's or doesn't want to give one up and Wire Plus is out of stock for 2 weeks. Looks like I'll get some use out of the boat after all this summer.

Installed the Wire Plus, same symptoms, no spark at plug. Coil next? Cam Sensor? Another question, fired it up with the new ignition switch hanging. Does it need to be mounted to be grounded?

No it doesn't. with a voltmeter see if you have 12 volts at red wire on coil with key on. Also see if light is lit up on Thunderheart ignition module while cranking.

Yep, have power at coil. All lights but I think 3 light up with key on, all lights light up while cranking

Bump, still looking for help.
When I replaced my EHC with the WP, mine looked just like yours! :job:No bolts to secure it to the battery box but it worked fine. Never had a problem from it so I don't think that your EHC was ever the problem to begin with. NOt because of the bolts being broken off anyway. Sorry I didn't see this thread when you first posted. :bang:

I must agree that the EHC doesn't need the bolts holding it down. I've been riding mine that way for over a year now.
I'd check that crank sensor.

Well the EHC never lit up, that's why the switch to the Wire Plus. Cam and crank sensor the same thing? Regardless I'm ordering one today.

Anyone who needs an EHC can have mine no charge. It may work and it may not

Yes Sorry, i should have called it a cam sensor. Pull your seat though first and look for a broken wire. You may have a short. It sounds like a wire came loose somewhere.
Do you have an alarm system on your Ridge?
