Damn, what a open ended question that is never ending!
Let's see, where should one start......

The EHC (Electronic Harness Controller) is exactly as it is described. It is a microprocessor driven, electronic electrical control device that controls most of the electrical system operations, whether manual or automatic functions. The units have had many revisions, while trying to eliminate problems and "gremlins". Some have never shown their owners any problems whatsoever, but the bulk of the EHCs have proven to be very temperamental, to say the least.
The best advice you'll get from most here will be the following:
1) The constant use of a battery tender is MANDENTORY!
2) Annually do a "Load Test" of your battery and replacing it when it test "weak" or starts shows signs of being weak.
3) Do a search in the "How-To" section on weather proofing your electrical connections and components internal circuitry and circuit boards.
4) Don't Do electrical add-ons until you check with the dealer or others here about it's compatibility with the BDM electrical system!
A little time on implementing these things will save you from a lot of hassles down the road! :2thumbs:
There are also those of us here that can help you troubleshoot your problems, if and when they occur.
And as far as any of the Recalls and Service Bulletins go, request them from any BDM Dealer, and they should be able to help you out, or do your own search at
Safercar.gov
And if all else fails, and you can't get the EHC problems corrected, there is an aftermarket replacement manufactured to take the place of the EHCs.
It and all of the needed conversion parts and instructions are sold by one of our members here, bdmridgeback a.k.a. Jake, on his web site:

Hope this helps your understanding of the EHC out a little bit. :2thumbs:
