does anyone know if all the functions will work on it??like flashers, self canceling blinkers?? ect??
It's a direct replacement and everything will work. No cutting or splicing just pull and replace plugs. I saw it in person a while back. I'll update on the availablility tomorrow

Steve, did a quick SEARCH and quicky found several posts and some threads:

The new electronic control module will come as a kit with a required model specific harness to allow it to plug-in in place of the old EHC. No re-wiring will be required and estimated installation time is approximately two hours. There will be kits available for all models from 2005 to the present. Current estimates put the retail price for these kits at around $500.
Some functions will be sacrificed with the new module; turn signals will no longer be self cancelling and there will no longer be a hazard flasher function.
Due to space limitations on many 2004 and older models the new module will not fit. In those cases the Wires Plus component can be utilized. Installation of the Wires Plus unit requires approximately twelve hours labor as the wire harness must be cut and terminated to complete the installation process

12/20/2010:
"No EHC will be available for the 2004 to 2008 Big Dog Line of Motorcycles. All the new motorcycles will have the same system that is in the 250 K-9. The replacement systems are not available yet. They should be available around the first of the year, 2011. They are to be plug and play and specifice to the models due to the length of the wiring harnesses. The first ones available will be for the 2005 to 2008 K-9 and the Mastiff. Other models will follow"
That's that last we have heard. - LF

Got to tear a 2011 apart at the dealer the other day and decided to take some pics to post up of the K-9 250 relay/fuse power distribution module and the wiring done at the factory. The wiring harness looks shady with the wires exposed like they are. I would have thought it would have been a cleaner install coming from the factory...

These are the only Retro Fit kits available from BDM for 2007-2011 models.
No retro fit kits are going to be offered for 2004-2006 models.

Will it be more reliable than the wire plus? My bike has an old ehc (serial port) 2008 Mutt. It hasn't seen too much rain and hasn't had serious electrical problems yet. KNOCK ON WOOD. Just curious and keeping wire plus in the back of my mind.

So far, no issues in the past year or so with Wire-Plus modules since I installed the prototype in my bike. Built like tanks and hold up.

Since the early 2000's, BDM has changed this POS EHC numerous times and have never fixed it. I would not trust another BDM major electrical component that has anything to do with the EHC. The Wire-Plus and the new BDM part cost almost the same, so why chance it? Fix it once, Right, and for good!

And besides, this new fix is ONLY for 2007 and newer bikes, not 2004, 05 and 06!!!!!!

Jake in your photo it looks like they have a ground to the top of the bat box bolt and another one going somehwere else (starter i'm assuming :D). Does the new model have two heavy grounds now or am I not seeing the pic correct. Thanks Virgil

You guys need to chill out on the SEARCH thing. With 350,00 posts I think we have about everything covered on the Bigdog. Hey here's an idea, Let's just stop posting and start searching instead and see how long this forum lasts. What do you all think?

On the left side you see all small the grounds, They are coming from the new (HCI), or Hand Control Interface. They are all the ground wires that were in the original serial port plug and now get grounded to the battery box. On the right side there is a main ground cable from the battery going to the battery box.

The Box with the fuses and relays in it is the new (PDM) or Power Distribution Module.

Yes, the EHC is removed and replaced with a PDM and a HCI.

It looks like everything was singly grounded with all the ground wires showing. Holy cow...:D
