EHC Module 2005 and older

Energy One
Has anyone experienced their EHC module going out past the warranty? And did Big Dog take care of it? I know of a few that have been replaced out of warranty and currently working with my local dealer which is working it out with Big Dog.....Please let me know if anyone else has been there, done that

I had 2 replaced under warranty and the third one was 6 months after warranty expired on my 04 chop. At the time my last one need replaced they were in the process of converting over to the adaptor and new style EHC and was no where ready yet. So I called every dealer around until I could find the old 04 style EHC and paid for it out of my pocket and installed myself. I contacted big dog and told them and they said no problem just send them the old EHC and if it checks bad they will send me a check for the unit and shipping. Got a check 2 weeks later. In your case since the old EHC is probably extinct by now you will at least have to pay for the adaptor I would guess.

Same here on the EHC - paid for it out of my pocket. They stuck to the "warrenty expired four months ago" story.

Won't happen again, since WHEN it fails the next time, it's nearly as cheap to rewire the bike, and that's te route I'm taking. Takes some creativity to handle the hand controls, but not impossible...

In the end, BDM is a great outfit, but the EHC approach for the 2004->2006's has been an albatross around their neck.

Hey you guys. I have a NEW (from SLC Big Dog dealer) 2004 EHC (also harness and Thunderheart ignition. Will sell them to recover my cost (all or separately.

I bought them to wire my custom chopper but changed my mind and went the Motor Co way with relays & circuit breakers. Main reason I changed my mind is that I went with mini apes and Harley hand controls and the fact that you can repair Harley wiring at most any automotive shop anywhere.

Would be a good chance for someone needing an EHC or a spare. I have been going to post this in Swap Meet thread, so will do that also now.

If you guys want to keep the hand controls and get rid of the EHC talk to marlon at wire plus he'll make a harness for you for this and you be all set with everything else as well. But as he has told me already a good harness is only as good as the weakest link which will be the controller needed to run the pc board hand controls. It would be best to shit can the whole bd system. But I was thinking of yet another option, you could possibly weld a plate on top or inside the control housing and repolish it out then drill for some standard micro switches, this would save you the cost of replacing the hand controls.

That's an idea... weld over the holes basically... then install your own switches.... that's the machinest thinking there!!! :2thumbs:

Tried calling Wyane Hanson, the Director of Consumer Affairs, he basically told me since my bike never had an EHC issue, he could only meet me half way with the cost of the parts and labor....I am at a loss now, don't know what to do

Mine is gonna tank this year ( got that feeling ). Just replaced my Thunderheart since it was causing trouble ( that was it Gas ... not the EHC).

That being said, I plan on replacing the system with standard electrical this winter. GREAT idea about welding and redrilling the control housings for micro switches !!!

IMO, this is a very generous offer especially with your scoot being 4 years out of warranty. Take the BDM offer. :2thumbs:
