EHC "Light"

I'm new to the forum and would appreciate any response or help. I have a 2007 carburated Pitbull, no issues with anything electrical, everything works fine, bike runs great....switch on, the Ignition LED on the EHC comes on when I hit the "run" button on the handlebar, goes off when I hit the off button. The service manual says this LED "will light when the run button is pressed", is it normal for this light to stay on while the bike is running? Again, it goes off when the 'off' button is pressed....Thanks in advance....Rick

Where's the love

Guys where's the love for the new guy :>)....no responses pretty simple question; pls go to your big dog, turn the key on, hit the run switch, do not start, look at your EHC...., is the "ignition circuit LED on (4th light from left to right on the first row when looking at the EHC from the rear)? Does it go off when you hit the off button. Trying to determine if this light should be on...it may vary by Dog and year, not sure. Please confirm this to be a normal condition. Several posts indicate that it is normal, an owner contacted BD several years ago and they said it was normal, several others confirmed their light was on.....I don't want to worry about this if it's normal......Thanks agian.

Rick,

I am away from my bike right and on an iPhone but I think the light stays on while the bike is running so you have nothing to worry about (especially since your bike runs fine).

That said, you can run a search for a thread on this site called how to read your ehc fault lights which has more detailed info.

Cheers

I don't know. Manual also states "Indicates open/short condition in the ignition circuit. Lights when run button is pressed. May flash while motorcycle is running" Is it possible it's flashing and your seeing it as a steady state?
My ride is undergoing winter maintenance so I cannot help ya there.

Ok,

I didn't start my bike but the 4th led from the left comes on with the ignition on after you push the run button and goes out when you press off. The other green led 4 lights over blinks. Also, the ignition module light blinks when you push run and goes out when you press off.

See picture below,

I think his original question was "is it normal for this light to stay on while the bike is running?"

Many thanks to all that responded, really appreciate your help....just wanted to make sure I didn't have a problem. I've had Harley's, Honda's etc... in the past but I'm new to Big Dog and it's problems. Every time I read about a discovered solution I run out and check my bike for the same, so far I've re-crimped all connectors, checked all grounds, did the dielectric thing in the EHC connectors, just ordered the 465 CCA battery, installed the DD Speedometer, HID headlight, K&P oil filter, changed oil with AMSOIL using the scavenger...so far so good everything works perfectly except a possible DD speedometer issue, it registers 2-3 MPH when throttling at a stand still and the displays jumps around. I'll see how it acts after calibrating it. It's really good to know that I can always come here for help? Thanks AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, it stays on but may flash according to the service Manual. I took my bike outside a couple of minutes ago and noted at low rpm it tended to flash and higher rpm it was mostly solid. It turns out that it is the ignition LED (just looked at the service manual for 08).

Sorry, I didn't answer the question the first time around but I was busy looking for the answer.

I looked and my ehc light "red" comes on when I press the start and stays light until I shut off.

Rick - Did you know LT Col Mike Loesekann my dad was with 82nd and SOCOM at Ft. Bragg many years back. Retired at McDill AFB Tampa Fl. a few years back. I lived in Fayetteville for 18 years.

Mike....Thanks for the reply, sorry I do not know him, Bragg continues to grow, probably 40-50K counting military and DA Civilians. I moved away from Fayetteville towards Southern Pines and Pinehurst, taxes and population kept getting higher and higher, thanks again.

Southern Pines and that area is a great place and much nicer than Fayetteville. Enjoy the site great info and folks on here that can help with any problem you might run across with the dog! Ride Safe
