EHC is now history

I took the same step of relief many of you have already done. I have had the EHC ripped from my bike and placed in a box to give to someone else who wishes to keep putting up with them.
I did not use a wire plus but a Thunderheart unit seeing how I run a Thunderheart made Thundermax wide band already.
I let Night Train or Mike do the transplant and cannot be happier about it all. He has offered on the forum to eliminate the EHC for those who do not wish to do it themselves.
He did a awesome job and is a very awesome guys as well. He knows his shit. To bad BDM does not have him in there stable.
I also got the chance to hang out with Airbrush-Ed. Totally a cool and very passionate artist.
Ed drop me a line and lets to the AC/DC back in black theme.
For those who want a turn key EHC elimination, Mike is very professional and has a reputation that proceeds him as well.
I am a happy camper.....and I am very happy with his work..

He went to witchta ks and had nightrain do it. I think he told me it took him a day and a half. Money wise I'll let him tell u that but seemed very reasonable to me. What part of tn I don't know if you mean where Neil is from but if so Clarksville 40 miles north of Nashville
Curious as to how long he took and how much $$$$$$..!!!

Sounds good Neil, if you don't mind me asking what is this new Thunder Heart Unit called, part number so that I can read up on it. Does it work like the wire plus where you can keep the same hand controls ect ect. I have the Wire plus and so far so good, I don't intend to change anything but just wondering if there are other units out there besides WP.

Mike or Night Train lives in Mulvane KS just outside Whicata. I am in Clarksville TN. I put the bike in the back of a pickup and ran over to him. It took him 2 days due to the fact it was a EFI bike and needed a few other things done to complete the package a carb bike does not need.
I gave $700 for everything, parts labor and all.
I think the ASM4260 Thunder-Heart Micro Module was $280 and the ASM4093 Push-Button Converter was about $40.

Yes I kept the BDM hand controls with this unit.
It is a Thunderheart Micro Harness Controller, EA4260 and EA4360.

And I had a blast while I was there too boot. Went to the factory one day and had lunch with a couple of good people....

Thanks for the info Neil. Please keep us informed about the reliability of the Thunderheart. Considering the controller is about half the cost of the WP mod it would seem to be a excellent option! :2thumbs:

Thanks for the info...I'd love to get my Mastiff stripped of it's EHC during this winter, but thats quite a distance for me. Maybe I can find someone closer to me to do the deed...!!!

Thanks much for the info...!!!

I dumped mine about 2 years ago - yanked out every single wire and did a direct wire with a circuit breaker - also went with a crane ignition and digital dakota speedo/tach -Have NOT had one problem with the bike since... best thing you can do to a dog...

I will do that. I have been running the Thundermax Wide Band for a while now already. Awesome stuff. The Thunderheart factory is only about a hour away from me and I know some of the people there personally which means a lot to me as well. Great people. They have worked with me for a while. I figured I would use my bike as the guinea pig for all you other Big Dog riders so you would have options from the proprietary stuff in your bike. I know the Fuel Injection ECM is far better hands down and I am betting the controller will shine as well.

I'm interested also if my EHC ever goes out. Makes sense to use the Thunderheart with the rest of the system plus the adjustable Ignition.

Neil, thanks for all the kind words. Did you get your other issue taken care of? This bike took a little more than I expected, I forgot all about the low fuel light thru the EHC and had to design a circuit to keep the low fuel indicator working like it is supposed to. It would not have been much of an issue but I had to build it with parts I could find in Wichita which pretty much limited me to Radio Shack and a small mom n pop electronics store, very limited selection.

Big Dogs with two rear lights use the 4260 module, the 4360 comes with module for a third light. You have to use the ASM4093 if you are keeping you BDM controls. You lose some functionality with this setup like flasher cancel and the hi/lo and run off buttons will function differently as well. You will loose the automatic "switch" if a headlight beam goes out. I think the differences are comparible or maybe even the same as the WP module. The one thing you do not get in the TH that you get in the WP is the diagnostic LEDs. I have three bikes burning gas that I have insalled this TH module in and so far no issues, however I have to admit there are not many miles on them, all installed with in the last year.

I am working on a plug and play harness to install this module in a 2004 Module for those that do not want to pay for a rewire. I am thinking about the same for 2005 and newer however the plug-n-play version will keep the D-sub connector which adds cost and is not the best way to wire it. In my opinion you need to get rid of as many connectors as possible (especially this D-sub connector) to get max reliability.

Neil is a cool guy and was very laid back and great to work for. Thanks!

Yes I did Mike.
Check your email from last Friday I sent you. It had a couple of things in it as well. I will send you a pm with it in it.

Am I correct in assuming if a person were to use the 4250 instead of the 4260 you'd still need to use the ASM4093? Do you know if there's any advantage to using the 4260 besides size? (If a person were to use the 4250 they'd get back LED troubleshooting capabilities. :2thumbs:)

In my humble opinion the Micro Controller Harness is a better product. Size, connections, and manufactuing. Micro Controller has less human hands touching it during assembly, surface mount pick and place, less chance for human error and ESD issues.

You can order other modules for about half the price of the Wire-Plus WP-374 module and have the same functions as the Thunderheart, loosing the high/low, run/start, but keeping auto cancel.

But, with the wire-plus WP-374 module it was designed for the 2004-newer hand controls and the high/low works, run/off works, auto cancel turns work, 4-way flashers still work, and you get diagnostic LED's like Night Train said.

And the Deutsch connectors alone that come in the WP-374 to replace the D-Sub Serial connectors are about $60-$75 in themselves just to buy them off the net. And like Night Train said, that D-Sub connector is a big problem that needs eliminated totally with either setup you go with.

Hey Night Train...
What is the difference, electronics wise, between this Thunder-Heart chassis controller compared to the Thunder-Heart units in 2003 and older Big Dog Bikes from the factory?

Just wondered myself. Wire-Plus makes a WP-375 module to replace the Thunder-Heart controller in 2003 and older bikes as well because of the issues with them.

As for hands touching, I think Wire-Plus only as one or two people building these 374 modules, there is not much to builing them that I heve seen and heard.
