EHC help needed.

Well im putting the bike back together and I was installing a new battery. Everything went smooth and I turned the key on and now my headlight goes on and off and the the red led on the ehc is on along with a Amber/yellow looking on. Now When the old battery was in I had no problems at all. Took the new battery and swapped it out just to see if maybe it was the new one and nothing changed same ol thing. What could it be????

Give me a little bit more information.

Is this the stock 2004 EHC (Black Plastic enclosure) or is it a retrofit (gold aluminum case).

Is the bike stock or are there aftermarket electrical parts on it? Is it the stock headlight? Does the light blink with key off or only when it is on? When you were changing batteries did any of the power wires short to ground? (not insulting your mechanic skills, just asking).

No it is a HID headlight which work before I changed out the battery. Also when I installed the battery I did get a little spark when I connected the wires/terminal but nothing grounded out. At least that I know of. Also the headlight only does it when the key is on

oh yeah also the red led closest to the main plug blinks with the head light. The yellow light is the 3rd in from other side and it is very dim

That im not sure of. I have the bike still apart. I was only putting the battery in to figure out what wires went to what turn signals. I stripped the bike to bare frame and I am rewiring the turnsignals. Nothing on the bike as of yet.

I put the light in last week. When I did the install I used the old battery and did the proper burn in. Everything worked that night, well at least everything that was hooked up.( speedo, headlight) Since then I took the ol battery out after the install and replaced it tonight with the new. And now this problem occurs.

I am not ruling out the EHC or anything else for that matter but let's start with something simple. When you wired in the HID light did you cut out the factory 3-pin connector or did you plug into that? If the connector is still there I would start buy disconnecting the HID and simply plugging in a standard Halogen bulb. I assume you wired the HID light into the low beam and left the high beam open. If there is something wrong with the HID light the EHC will automatically switch to the hi beam, when it sees there is no hi beam it will switch back to low and the cycle will continue. Let's rule out the simple things first and work our way back to the EHC.

Ill have to look into that more tomorrow. I used Lowdowns kit. Just a plug and play .... now im just going to unplug the like and see if the leds on the ehc continue. if so then nothing has changed. if so the it could be the light. Thanks again ill be getting back with you to let you know more.

You will need to plug in a regular halogen bulb. if you simply unplug the HID and do not put any type of a load on the EHC it will switch back an forth because it thinks both hi and lo beam have failed.

I never did see a response, which EHC do you have, Black plastic enclosure or gold color aluminum?

My old dealer used to say that the 04 EHCs are very sensitive to electrical changes beyond stock- Plugs and spark plug wires had to be stock. I had a tricky air air ride and compressor hooked up to my battery (before BD ever used the legends), a smaller adjure headlight bucket, and no front turn signals. My dealer went nuts. So I don't know whether HIDs are "safe" with that style EHC- Maybe night train knows.

Ok here is the latest. I took out the HID light kit and put the regular H4 bulb back in. Turned the key on and the samething happend. The light just pulsates on and off but with very low power. Actully it barely lights it up to and amber color. So after talking to a few techs it seems as if the EHC is bad. I continued to rewire the taillights and front turn signals and to do as much as possible. Until I can get ahold of a new ehc. Thanks for you help.

I know this probably goes without saying but you may want to see if you can figure why you got a spark when you connected your battery BEFORE you put a new EHC in.

Unplug a connector, see if it sparks, then unplug another connector, see if it sparks, and so on. That way if there's something wrong in the wiring that killed your EHC you don't kill the new one too! I'm thinking the EHC is too expensive to use as a fuse, if you know what I mean.

Just a thought... :D

Thanks N8KAM but its the wrong set up for my bike. Ok here is the latest.
I went to a large swap meet today and out of the blue came across a gentleman parting out a BDM. It was an 04 mastiff. Anyways he happend to have a complete main wiring harness and EHC!!!! He sold me the complete set for 150 and said that it had worked when the bike was parted out. Also he is not far from me and gave me his card and personal cell number and said if there is any problems to contact him and he will give me a refund. Now with that said I went home and complete some more wiring. The Factory headlight with the H4 bulb was reinstalled, and the front turn signals/running lights were hooked back up. along with the coils, pressure release valves, speedo and hand controls. Now the horn, rear taillights/signals, and lisence plate light are all still not installed. Now with all that done and the new battery in and the New EHC installed I turned the key and WALA SAME FUCKING THING!!! As the light slowly light up (very dimly) and started to pulsate the EHC lights started to flash back and forth. It was the 2nd one in ( Yellow ) and the 9th on in (Red) and they alternating. Also at that time neither of my running lights/ turn signals in the front were working, but my speedo lit up. So I turned off the key and unplugged the Bulb and everything seemed to work fine. Both turnsignals were on and worked with the controls and the EHC only had the normal single red light on. So with the bike still on I put the bulb in and everything went out again and same ol story. So this is what I am thinking now. Could I possibly have a shorted out wire in the headlight harrness that is causing this whole problem ? I am thing about just using the new harrness and pluging everything without running through the frame just to see if that is it. Any suggestions fellas !!!!

Unplug the backbone connector and the headlight. Then whip out your trusty meter and check that it's wired correctly and that none of the wires show continuity to ground.

One caveat is that I only have the wiring diagram of a 2005 so I'm assuming the 2004 headlight also gets its ground through the EHC...
