EHC fried?

Hey, I ride an 06 K9. about 2.3k miles on it but they are moslty city miles. On July 4th went on a 200 mile round trip. it was 100 degrees out. anyway after an hour lunch, when i got back to the bike, turn the ignition, nothing!check the EHC, it looks like a Xmas tree. i disconnect the battery, reconnect, i get power even with the ignition off... when i turn the ignition on the reconnect the battery i get 3 lights green, amber and red (blinking, I think). thats the only way it starts. I have hit the "reset" button. added dielectric gel, tested the battery, 12.63 volts with engine off and right to 14 volts while running. what now? help.

To me EHC fried implies its dead (an open) and it isn't going to magically 'heal' itself temporarily. I mean it looks like a solid state device after all, granted I'm no expert in this department and you'll get plenty of votes to ditch it; and hey I could see peace on mind in that route, besides its good business for Jake too... So, I could rationalize that.

Yet, I've had battery wires and crimps comes loose on me a couple times which seemed to give the same or similar symptoms.

Just saying, I'd like to see a myth busters episode on it some day....:roll:

Before you go to throwing a lot of money on it, try taking a reading on the battery while you're turning the motor over. Mine took a dump last week and showed high voltage while just sitting there, but none when I hit the start button. If you're able to do something to actually make the motor turn over and it turns over strong, then your battery probably is not the problem. You may also have a ground short somewhere that is making your EHC shut down.

The 12.63 volts is low, I think its suppose to be 12.8 volts minimum. Start with the battery.

hey guys, thanks for the advice. i disconnected everything, relays, connectors even the coil. i also used a small screwdriver to push the reset button in better. i reconnected everything and my EHC was reset. she's up and running and got me to a great MC party and back! see ya on the road.

I've done a LOT of reading on this site, and if there is one thing I've learned...ALWAYS start with the simple stuff! The search function is a bike-saver and there are a lot of knowledgeable folks on here that deserve BIG praises! :2thumbs:
