EHC Failure

Well, welcome the newest member to have their EHC go bad. :hi:

Bike had been in the garage for about 4 months... hooked it up to the tender when I got back and tried to start it up a couple hours later (I know... no chance of it being at full charge, but it was a rare nice day here and I wanted to get out). But, it didn't start... did the little flasher thing it does when there's not enough juice. So I left it hooked up for another couple hours. Went back and it turned over, but I didn't have the choke pulled up so it didn't fire. Pulled the choke and went to turn it over... and got the flashers again.

But this time... the right front signal wasn't flashing and the right indicator on the dial stayed on... even with the key removed. Called the local BD place and they said they couldn't pick it up for a few days and I was leaving in 2 days to go home. So I get back into town the next week and they pick it up.

Get a call the next day asking about the HID... sounded like at first they were gonna blame that on the problem and stick me with the bill (I've got 3 months left on warranty). He said that HIDs can cause problems because of the wiring on these BDs and I told him I bought one designed for the BD bought it from a sponsor on here, LowDownChopShop, and he said "Ah, Jake...". So he calls back asking a couple questions on which light I got and in the end agreed that the light wouldn't be the cause but that the EHC was fried.

I asked him about the WiresPlus I've seen a few on here do and he said they're bulletproof and the 3 he's done, has not heard back from the owners. But... that was gonna cost a bit more than the free replacement I'm getting now... so oh well.

Get a call today and he said it's about 6-8 weeks out from getting one in. That since BD knows there's a problem, they actually went to the guy who makes the WiresPlus and had him design them a kit. So it's gonna take that long because they no longer have the old style in and will be getting the new one in instead. So it sucks to be down for so long (I leave again in 7 weeks for a month, back for 1 and then gone again for 7)... but at least I'll be getting a nice new upgraded EHC for nothing. :D

Sorry for the novel... it didn't seem like it was gonna be that long when I first started. lol

Very familar story. My Chopper was on the tender in the living room over the winter. Rolled out the front door, gas on, ignition on & poof. The EHC fried. Had flashers going off the whole nine yards.
My local BD service center told me the same story about the WiresPlus being 2-3 weeks out. (It has been ordered) Oh well. If it was easy anybody could do it.

Since BD contacted WiresPlus to do a kit, is it possible that the new WiresPlus replacement is going to be a plug & play application? Hope so,eh? :2thumbs:

So, with all the news about BD as of late, I've been calling and going by to check on the situation at my dealer. He just called me to tell me what I've already read here (Thanks again Gas for the updates) and that "all warranty is null and void". So yea... this dealer def doesn't seem like the kind of place that'll stand up and help with getting a WiresPlus kit or anything else I'm gonna need from here on out.

This day just keeps getting better... first I get half my pay then I find out it's gonna be more than double to fix up the bike.:bang:
