EFM Autoclutch

That's why I asked what oil he was using with it.
I was running ATF with my stock clutch to get a better bite but when I went to my EFM I had to switch back to primary oil as it was biting to hard with the EFM. Once I went back to primary oil it settled down but I use Lucas Primary Chain case which is thinner than what many are putting in their primary.
Yes the King Kong clutch uses Cadillac automatic clutch material. That is why they suggest atf. My clutch is kind of tabby, but I always assumed it was the hydraulic actuation.

Good to know it might be the fluid.

So the plates are stuck together for some reason. Either the EFM bearings are stuck on closed position, there is some shit between the plates or whole setup doesn’t sit right. What can you do? Open the EFM, check the ramps and balls, check the plates, check the EFM plate. Anyways Sorry to hear, I sure thought only ppl with open primary and EFM had such a problems.
I wonder how the balls and ramps would like ATF oil... at least that should keep the plates from sticking together?
Hi TapioK,
Just getting back into it, been away working.
I have just pulled the cover off (AGAIN), no unsightly gunk in the oil or sitting in the bottom of the cover.
Every thing seems fine.
I wonder if by reducing my clearance in 20 thou from the so called set up by ol mate has something to do with it?
I reduced the clearance to eliminate the slippage, this has certainly worked.
Anyway next weekend i am home so i will pull the bloody thing apart and go through the process.

Thanks everyone.

Well i am back from work.
Took the EMF off this morning after first measuring the clearance, it is sitting a .049", internally after installing the new clutch pack i adjusted the clearance to about .030" if i remember right, and i now have ridden the bike 3000klm. The correct clearance from EMF is .050 - .06".
I have now pulled the pack apart suspecting a stuck plate.............but no all good, no discoloration on the plates.
So i reassembled everything set the clearance to .055", cover back on, add HD primary oil, start bike and adjust cable. Feels good.

Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzz wrong, worked the lever for a bit, slipped it into 1st and immediately started creeping forward, pulled in the clutch it stopped, revved the motor with lever in and she started moving WTF.:oldbang::oldbang::oldbang:

The clutch pack has been draining for a week, do you think it may settle down once the new oil works it way into the plates.
Or as i am thinking just roll over and admit defeat?:oldswear::oldswear::oldswear:

In my open primary the actual EFM plate, or whatever you call it, started flexing! I thought I somehow overheated it on long trip and aluminum lost it’s rigidness (is that a word) ...
I just assumed it doesn’t work with open primary and long road trips.
I never took time to figure how that is even possible, just got rid of EFM.

Hopefully I have got to the bottom of my issues.
Pulled the clutch apart (AGAIN).
Found 1 fiber and 2 steels stuck together and several "sticky", cleaned everything, gave the steels a light touch on some 1200 wet and dry.
Had 6 titanium balls in the EMF removed 3 & equally spaced the remaining 3.
Went for a 250 klm ride.
No issues PERFECT. :whoop::old2:

I had smashed my head light from a rock, i had a HD one off a mates old V Rod, it bolted straight on
However if i hook up the yellow to yellow black to black and white to white i get low beam only.
If i reverse the yellow and white i get both but the hi beam light comes on for low beam WTF :oldbang:
Just another day in the life of a BIG DOG BIKER

Glad to see you got the clutch worked out. I would have gave up on it long ago.
