EFI question relating to Pipe change

I bought this bagger and thought the stock pipes were lame and too quiet. Problem is no other pipes other than Vans and Hines Big Radius are made to fit. So I retrofitted these Paul Yaffes that are made for a Street Glide. Had to use the plugs to fit the current ECM module and splice them onto the O2 sensors that are made to fit these pipes. All good right!! No, since the ECM is an EPA locked version my engine light is coming on and it is slipping into skip fire mode, which limits your engine. So I bought the 55-5090 pretuned Pro Tune from S&S.

Where the hell is the ECM on this damn bike??? Battery and other electrical is under the seat. Any suggestions?

My ECM is bolted to the battery box under the seat. I ended up replacing my ECM to an unlocked version.

I'm curious why the BDM OEM oxygen sensors would not fit the Yaffe pipes. I was under the impression that the thread size for the O2 sensors was universal. The ECM is not liking the O2 sensors for some reason.....

I wouldn't think the pipe change would set the light. Like erl said it may be the wrong O2 sensors. S&S should know what sensors you need, or might be best just to put your stock ones in with different bungs. The ECM is behind the left side cover. How many miles are on the bike?

Okay, thank you everyone. First off the O2 sensors were way too big for the Yaffe Pipes I put on and thats why I had to retrofit the new smaller O2 sensors. I called S&S and they thought that would be ok and suggested the Pro tune ECM so i ordered that. Thanks KS Mike & erldawg.....I will pull the batter and look around. Based upon the pre-programmed mapping it should plug in and I can roll. I spent over an hour with S&S on the phone. They asked so many questions and then pretuned it for me. I will go into a shop to get it dynoed and custom tuned, but this will work for now. Gotta get this SOB on the road!

You dont need to pull the battery to get to the ecm. Take the bottom allen head bolt out of the side covers, then the two top allen bolts (under the seat) to get off the left side cover. Unhook the battery while working on the ecm. If you need help, let me know, I have worked on my ecm quite a few times.

Tip: A ball head allen socket on a long 1/4" drive extension makes it much easier to get the lower cover bolt out. And don't force or pry on the side covers. They come off easy when all the bolts are loose.

Awesome! Thanks KS Mike....You asked about mileage and clutch cable. The bike has 9,500 miles on it. I have not had any parts to replace at this point. It did not have a head unit in it so I purchased one with Bluetooth from JVC for $100 on Crutchfield. I plan to powdercoat some parts this winter to compliment the pipe. Jesus you know where to get a sissy bar for this F*cker? PDM says 8 week wait. BTW, I bought the bike from the owner of PDM.

Okay, got to the VFI and changed it out. road the bike 5 miles and the engine light comes on again. WTF! It doesn't limit me out like the EPA controlled unit, but it is still kicking the engine light. Any suggestions? S&S said the O2 sensors should work. I guess I will call them back and see if they can help troubleshoot. Any ideas let me know.

Does your ECM have the usb type computer port? If so, you can get the software online and find out what the code is for, may not even be what you think it is.

I had to download the 124 map and re-configure it while the bike was on the dyno. The red-light switch is a easy fix. Learning the program was left up to my mechanic.

Timing is the most important aspect of the tune since the O2 sensors will adjust the fuel delivery enough to at least ride the bike.

Improper timing will kill the engine in s little as 750 miles.

You should have received a copy of the pro tune software with the ECM. Connect your lap top up with a mini usb cable and read the DTC codes.

It's been awhile since I've hooked mine up. It's somewhat intuitive but read the manual before making any changes.

I always get the code off the website. No telling how long ago the cd that came with whatever was mastered.

The module came with a disc. So I should download the software to my PC and then plug in the computer to the module right? Just don't want to mess this up!

Load the SW and update it off the web if it will let you.

As long as you just read the ecu and o not write anything you should be fine.
