My bike is a new 08 picked it up in March(left over). Its been great so far, however today went for a ride and pulled over for a pop . may 5-10 mintues, bike would not start, fuel pump was no coming on and red malfunction light was light. let it set for another 20-30 mintues and it started rode it home, turn it off and same thing all over again. Does the pump run of off the ecu or does it just get power to the switch? Going to pull the tank off and look for bare wires?? Any help would be great. Thanks

I believe there is a relay that powers the fuel pump. Whistler had that issue in the past. U may want to check that as well.
SHould still be under warranty...

Take it to the dealer for warranty work.
Otherwise, it's going to strand you somewhere, probably on a Sunday. Then that leads to a thread beating down BDM.

RETIRED
Should start a new thread on this one but, I'll ask it here. Why does some bikes have liners in the gas tank and other don't?:confused:Yea, it's probably a dumass question:hi:

You need to check the battery terminal connections and make sure you check each individual WIRE CRIMP that goes to the battery terminals. I had several wire crimps that were loose and the EHC would die, killing the bike. TUG on the wire crimp connectors and make sure they are TIGHT!

Good call BigDogBro1....I also found these wires worn through the insulation. Note these are the compression release wires located in the engine wiring harness that goes up under gas tank. It was rubbing on the bottom plate of the gas tank. Does not hurt to pull the tank and check all wires.

It would be a good idea to replace the relay. I know you hear it 'click' but that does not gaurantee that there isn't a problem inside the relay keeping power from getting to the pump. I have had one experience with intermittant failure exactly like you are speaking about. It's a quality relay, but still mand-made. Replace it, and remember that the horn relay next to it will interchange with the pump relay.

That sucks. They cannot give you a date? I saw a pump on ebay but that does not help you tank issue....:(:(
