efi bike problems

From start - Hard acceleration ok till 2500 then bucks
riding down road at 2500 -- accelerate above 2700 and bucks (not developing power)
If you ease along you'll get 3000 plus (but not much more)
Last time I worked on this there were no obvious error codes in the VFI -- could the VFI gotten corrupt even with a map reprogrammed to it?

Everytime I see a post on this EFI system I cringe, I am so glad I don't have a EFI bike, but I gotta wonder what the hell is so hard about getting it right, I mean don't Harley's have EFI? Do they screw up too? Anyway Mike I have no idea but I am sure someone will help ya figure it out, good luck brother!

Jap bikes have EFIs. An EFI system should be the way to go every time I would think. I have friends with 4 wheelers that have EFI that have zero problems.

I agree, just seems like lately more people have had problems with their EFI's, I am just wondering why cause it should be better.

so here's even weirder info -- wires broke on the O2 sensor(don't ask), so I had the engine light on all day.
I get 2 miles from home and the check engine light goes out (front o2 sensor still disconnected).
Make the turn to the back way to the house and I tach it up and she pulls hard all the way past 4500rpm -- like it was new.

What the Hell? Why'd the check engine light decide to go off? Does this confirm my thoughts that its the VFI circuit?

Will take it out tomorrow and see what happens.

Age of the components (gotta keep in mind most of these bikes are 10 years old) and ethanol fuel definitely do not help, it's common that a fuel system requires maintenance like anything else
The efi on my old BMW GS is 23 years old.... what you talk about maintenance.
