EFI back firing all over the place. HELP!

Hi all.
Well I have been having problems with the EHC. It was running fine, but I was having trouble with the EHC LED's, hand controls etc. We thought it could be an earthing short somewhere.

So today, myself and Mickeetwo pulled the tank and cleaned/checked/greased every connection we could find. Backbone, all around the intake, coil/ignition area, speedo, front signals, hand controls and around the EHC.

Once we got it back together, new fuel. Turned key on, run, key off and wait 15 seconds. Then when we started it. It was back firing all over the place. Seems like it was from the rear cylinder. (all EHC led's are back to normal).

Does anyone know what it would be doing this all of a sudden? It was running great before, I had it running this morning. Now we put it back together and it running like crap.:bang:

What could cause this? Loose wire? Sensor screwed? Fouled plugs (ran fine before)?:bang:

Just quessing but either you crossed the plug wires or you fouled your plugs. Were you starting the scoot using the choke?

I could have crossed the plug leads I guess. Hope thats it. Do they cross or is it Front coil plug to front cylinder and back to back one? I cant remember and the image in the manual is crap.

Yep you got it! Front coil wire to front plug and rear to the rear plug...:2thumbs: I hope it's not your EHC...:down:

I could be way off, but with everything unplugged you would have lost all the learned maps. Wouldn't you have to ride it a bit to get them back to normal. Not sure it would even run that rough right away anyway though.. Hope you get it fixed.

The base maps are still there. Only the adaptive maps will be lost when the battery is disconnected.

Kiwi, Sounds like you may have a crossed a connector, bent a pin maybe, re-check .....

Re-check!! Argghh!!! lol. That was one of my worries, bending a pin when I greased it. I was pretty careful not to use force with any connections.

The maps had crossed my mind, but I didnt thing it would be that rough when it started.

I have a few errands this morning then Ill get into it. Shit I hope its something as simple as crossed leads.

For the turn signal. Im going to try swapping front signal LED boards nd see if I can narrow down the problem (FR still not flashing).

It was running to rough to ride. I thought it might have fouled a plug. We didn't have any extra plugs and it was to late to go get some more. I'm betting the coil wires are crossed.

I like Mickie's idea check the simple stuff first....plugs n plug wires coil wires.

Double check the 3 pin connector from the backbone harness that plugs into the coil pack. Easy to get in plugged in wrong or a pin get bent back and the cylinder will miss. Been there.

Yup, pulled the coil cover, switched the lead back. Started her up and good to go (knock wood). Will take her for a longish ride today if it warms up (8am and still below freezing), but looks promising so far.

The RF signal was flashing as well, then it wasnt, now it is again. All within 10 mins. If thats my only problem, then Im happy. Compared to what I was thinking this time last week. To me it looked like EHC doom and gloom. EHC led's flashing all over the place. All seems in order now.

Just wish I knew 2 things. What was wrong with it and what we did to fix it......

I guess thats the nature of the beast with these bikes.

Try swapping the left front flasher board to the right and see if the turn signal still does the same thing. This will let you know if the board is bad or not. Enjoyed working with you friday on the dog. Dean enjoys taking things apart If he had bought a Honda he would be bored to death

For sure, gotta keep the mind occupied. I figured if it was flashing then it would be working and a loose wire somewhere else. But very true, the short could be in the led board itself. Ill swap them today and test it out. Easy stuff first.:up:
