Dying Dog

I'm having a few issues with the Dog and I'm hoping someone can help me narrow it down. I don't want to jump to a conclusion on the EHC but its all I can think of.

The day after i bought this thing, it began to give me starting trouble.
Once you turn the key, the signal lights come on but will not flash, the horn does not work, and the headlight is out. If I leave if sit for a few minutes or sometimes it takes days, everything returns to proper function.

The dealer said it was a bad start switch on the hand controls and replaced that about a month ago. Since then it has been fine until my ride to Laughlin this weekend when it died in desert at 75mph. I waited 10 minutes, fired it back up once I saw the headlight return and drove another 200 miles to Laughlin.

Saturday night, that same damn thing happened and I'm out of ideas except the EHC....

The big dog mechanic at the show tested the board in the hand controls and also said there is power coming from the EHC.

Any help is appreciated.

When the bike quits before you touch anything remove your seat and see if all the lights on your ehc are on... this is what mine has done about 6 times in 200 miles... With a new EHC... Been PM,ing with Ohmster and think we have tracked it down to a faulty ign switch need to ride it more...

Those older bdm ign switches were known for problems. Do you clip yours to the spark plug wire? Do you have anything hanging off it?

I do clip the key to the rear plug wire. The dealer that sold it to me recommended it.

I'll have to pull the tank this week and see if I can find anything.

I am novice at best with electrical, but could an ignition cause the bike to die ince it is running?

Thank you both for the ideas

As i said before The next time it dies if all the lights on the EHC are on it is a sign that it has lost power and is trying to shut down. then the power is back and it locks up. When mine did it i had no headlight, no lights of any kind and my speedo would freeze at the speed i was traveling at.... chk pos and neg connections for the EHC at the battery to be tight and clean.. chk switch connector... Also try wiggiling the key in the switch with it running and see if you can duplicate the condition. Good luck..

Yeah a faulty key or connection to the key circuit can act like you just turned off the bike just as Kam said.

Dead Again

Well it finally died again. I had solid month of riding before this thing cut out on me again.
While doing about 20mph, it just turned off on me. I didn't notice the speedo freezing like N8KAM mentioned. As far as I could tell, only the oil light was on in the speedo when it turned off.
When I tried to restart, only the second light from the left on the EHC would come on a yellow or orange color. The red light on the starter module did not come on.
Once I paid for the tow to get home and got it off the truck, of coarse it fired right up again. When it does start correctly, the same light on the EHC illuminates Red as soon as you hit Run and so does the Red Led on the Starter Module.
Does the Yellow color vs the Red mean anything? Short or bad ground maybe?
