DUNLOP 240/40R-18 M/C 79V ELITE 3

Hey guys,
I've been having the same issues with the Avon tires as every one else. My bikes an 03 chopper, so my back tire is a 250. My front tire was so weather cracked, and the tire had splits in the tread, I finally replaced the front yesterday with a Dunlop Elite II. So far I like it. Put about 120 miles on it.

My Avon Cobra back tire has so many little cracks on the tread I just cant see buying another one. Avon doesn't seem to be fixing the issue, and I hate the feeling of riding down the highway wondering if my tire is going to let go.

I'm now thinking about doing the same on the back tire. Dunlop has a 240/40R-18 M/C 79V ELITE 3. Has anyone tried this tire yet. If I go to the 240 will I get a little more clearance for the tire? BUT....After looking at all the specs, I'm thinking my 8.5" rim to too big for the 240. Not sure the 250 will clear my belt, which is the issue with going to a metzeler. Though it looks like the Metzeler 240 says its width is 9.4/8.5 rim. Is it only the 300mm Metzeler tire that has the clearance issue?

I always liked Dunlops on my sport bikes, and Dunlop makes the Harley tire. Plus, the back tire is only $158 for the 240/40R-18 M/C 79V ELITE 3 compaired to $232.

Any opinions from you guys before I make the switch?

I did not have a problem with the width on Metzler's 300. It was closer than the Avon but it still cleared.

supposedly, metzeler has "fixed" the situation with being too close to the belt. maybe we do have another option available to us now.

Now that would be sweet to have more options.......

Went out to go for a ride, and I have a nail in my back tire. Guess I'm replacing my tire sooner then I thought.

I bought the Dunlop 250 but haven't installed it yet. My Avon is bald as a babies ass after 9,000 miles. May get the same miles out of the Dunlop, we shall see.

 I replaced the Avon with the 250 Elite lll on my 05 Chopper about two thousand miles ago. I have good clearance running the wire wheel set up.

The stock aluminum wheel put the belt to tire clearance at a minimum. Still runable tho.

had a dunlop elite E3 on my 05 when i bought it a year ago...the dealer said it had 1000 mi on it at time of sale...the belt would just barely rub the tire...had bike at BDM and they shimmed out the belt hub with a .125 spacer good clearence the only drawback is ive put 4000 miles on bike and tires are at the wear bars....
