Thanks Mate!!! Any suggestions on what HD model would be closest? I assume that anything with an Evo motor is what you're talking about. Right? Mums out back having a fag or I would ask her. Ya gotta hate a damn redneck trying to mock an Englishman!

I got one for the Heritage (cus I got a Heritage!) and it tells me everything I need to know. Also, you don't have an Evo in your dog - you don't have a twin cam either! food for thought...I'll let you ponder

Hmmmmm:loony: I have a SSW V twin, single cam, double overhead cam action. When you say that a HD book is very similar to BDM, don't Harleys have an Evo motor? :confused:I knew that mocking an Englishman would come back to haunt me.:roll::roll:

very good - not sure about the overhead cam bit though - we're straying into V-Rod territory now :D

the older harleys had Evo motors but they then went to twin cams - not sure what year though. I have a Haynes manual for 2002 softail and its good. Obviously if you want to get more into specifics on the engine then you need to get the S&S manual for that :2thumbs:

I think we might have jacked this thread a bit here :zwhistle:

No doubt! Mike, did you ever figure out why your motor squeals? Are you from the hills of North Carolina? Seems like I've seen a movie about this. JK  Mine squeals too so if you figure it out, give a shout! :whoop: I'll do the same.

Lee, thanks for the HD info. Actually, I think I still have my book from my '92 FatBoy. Never thought about looking in it to reference similar items on the Big Dog.

I just wanta ride
Thought I would share a little experience I had with my 04 pitbull.

I bought the bike used in February with 4,300 miles on it. I've put 500 miles on it since. About 100 miles ago, I started hearing what sounded like a dry squeal noise coming from the primary. Every time I would take off from a stop, or get on it a little, I would hear it. Never heard it any other time.

I removed the outer primary cover and inspected inside without removing anything else, and everything looked good. I put it back together and while I was at it switched to Amsoil synthetic. That quieted things down, but the squeal was still there.

I took it into the shop last week and told them I thought it was my inner primary bearing going out. They pulled it apart and found the compensator nut had come loose. Since it was apart, I had all the seals and bearings replaced. It runs perfect now.

I was talking to another local Big Dog owner who has a 04 Chopper and he told me he had the same thing happen.

Anyway, happy ending catching it before it something really went sideways.

Anybody else have this happen?
Yep same thing I heard. Used amsoil syn. and was not as loud. Took primary apart no metal shavings??? Thought everything was tight. Put it back together.Took it for a spin and now instead of hearing the squeeling its like gears trying to grab. I think the solution is to tighten the main shaft bolt due to the main shaft has walked over and now third gear and above I hear that gear sound. will torque down the main shaft nut use red lock tight but before I do replace all bearings and seals.

Thanks Raywood for clearing that up .... I didn't remember seeing a big nut in front of the primary when I had mine apart. I was a bit worried something wasn't right. :D
