dry rubbing sound

Hello all.

Recently Ive acquired a dry rubbing sound from my primary/tranny area. I took all the plates out of the primary and checked each one for any odd wear of breaks. Checked the basket, chain, chain adj and front pulley. All is well. Cleaned everything and closed it up and put new juice in. Took it for a ride and sounds the same. I checked my tranny fluid and it is pink and at the right amount. Im thinking the ball/ramp area may be the culprit.
Heres the funny part. When idling it will make the sound. I pull the clutch in and the sound is still there. Once I put her in gear, the sound stops. Tranny related maybe? The bike runs fine and shift great. Any ideas?

pull the pushrod and inspect the pointy end of it that contacts the throwout bearing. it is case hardened and will eventually wear out. should be nice a smooth and round, no dips or nicks. also take a look at the length of the shaft for scoring. if the tip is bad, replace it. if the shaft is scored just a little, might be able to file it smooth, check it for straight, and grease it back up and re-install it.

I did ck the tip of the rod while I had the clutch plates out. It looked fine. Ill pull the rod as you recommended and ck it. Thank you.

Pulled the rod out, cleaned and checked it for scratches. There were some very faint rub bands around the rod in a couple places, but no scratches or damage. Tip is in perfect condition. Rolled it on my glass table and it is perfectly straight. Removed front pulley cover and R&R the ball & ramp assembly. All was perfect and still well greased. Adjusted clutch and went for a ride. Same dry rubbing sound. It seems to be coming from the left side of the tranny. I already checked the clutch basket and plates and all were fine. This tranny was installed by BDM Tampa in late 2008. All new inside and out. Unsure of how many miles, but shouldnt be more than 25,000. Any ideas?

Update:
The problem with my dry rubbing sound turned out to be my clutch pressure plate. Jeff explained it to me, I dont remember it all. Bottom line is something rubbed my pressure plate (see attached pic). He ordered the clutch kit from Curtis and installed it. Now Im having a Twin Tech ignition module installed (381-655). First step to removing the POS ehc.CAM00485.jpg

Thanks PK. I learn so much from this site. Not just when the problem applies to me, but anyones' issue. Lets not forget about the less recognized modifications some of us do. Thank you all for your time and input. I hope I have also contributed.

Ignition module installed. He started the bike and after a brief warm up, he said the noise came back. He opened the primary again and found the clutch basket had a slight up/down movement. He's thinking the tranny bearing is bad. Your thoughts? Does the tranny need to be pulled for that bearing R&R?

I spoke to Jeff yesterday. He explained that I need to replace the bearings on the main tranny shaft. The shaft that attaches to the back of the clutch basket moved about 2-3mm. The rebuild kit is $250. He's going to replace the seals, bearings and everything.
So now I have a new clutch kit (plates), new points kit and now a tranny rebuild. As a side note, the tranny does not have to be removed for the fix.

Kits been ordered. Hopefully my Lady will be home by next weekend. Something I didnt mention in the previous post, Jeff cleans the surrounding area he is working on. That speaks well of the mans character.

I saw a picture where Andrew had one tore down in the frame. I don't think it's something I would tackle myself.when I installed the Baker belt drive on my 07 K9 I sent my transmission to Andrew for a complete rebuild and installed the upgraded input shaft. Is not cheap but it is smooth as silk
I´ve seen it first person while the whole operation was been done to my K9 at home...... There were bits & pieces everywhere!!!! Definitely it is some serious work that!!!
