Drop Seat on '08 Pitbull - opinions?

While I like the spring seat on the Pitbull helps save the kidneys from taking a beating on rough roads, I find that when I throttle it hard, it doesn't hold me in place and I feel like I'm sliding off the back.

So my thoughts were to either to have a custom saddle made that isn't so flat, or go with the Big Dog drop saddle. So of course I wanted to get the opinions of the gang here who either have or have ridden with the drop saddle first.

I guess no one has a newer Pitbull with the drop-seat in replacement of the spring seat? I hate to spend $250 on a drop seat only to not like it. I've checked with the local dealers to see if they have the seat in stock (of course not) so I can't even "dry fit" it and see if I would like it better. It looks as if it would hold me better, but not sure if this old body can handle the pounding that a rigid gives without the seat springs. Hmmmm what's a guy to do?

I've got an '08 Pit, but I don't ever feel like I'm gonna slide off it. I do feel the need to hang on when I hit it but that's it. I'd never give up the spring seat for the low profile drag seat.

You don't put armor all or something like that on your seat do you?

you could put velcro on your ass cheeks :D sorry thats not very helpful is it. Surely they will be getting one in stock at some stage for you to look at?

The drop seat definitely looks better, but it's going to make it a true rigid. Not sure if I'd take that change.

No Armor All here. I think I maybe if I had a fatter ass or more weight it would help! Maybe that velcro idea is a good one..

Unfortunately, the dealers around here don't carry any of the accessories - they only order when they have a specific order from a customer. What I might do is see if they will take it on return if my kidneys fail after riding for a while. I've been watching eBay and Craigslist to see if I can find one used so I'm not into it for as much money, but there aren't that many '08 and newer Pitbulls around which means there aren't many/any who have a drop seat they want to sell.
So I'll no doubt end up ordering it - of course you may see it for sale on this forum in a few months...

My old dealer had one with a drop seat and drag bars on it. Really changed the geometry of the bike. It actually felt better. But I still preferred the old school look of the suspended seat.

Well, I took the plunge. I found a new drop seat on eBay for $195, and got the dealer to cover shipping, so it wasn't as expensive if buying directly from Big Dog or thru my local dealer. It is on it's way, so once I install and test ride I'll post again.

I just read your post and you will be happy with the drop seat. I like the way it makes you sit lower and more secure in the saddle when opening up the dog. You will find the tickle in your spine though. But definitely worth it. You might want to try the 180lb springs for your other seat too, if you have not already. Enjoy... :cheers:

Any update on the drop? Did you try adjusting the springs on the springer (not that would prevent you from sliding off). Road mine for 800 miles unitl I figured out how to adjust them. Once I made the adjustment the ride was 110% better. Now it is just rough on the cheeks and not the spine:eek: Or as Elvis mentioned depending on your weight may want to try the 180# spring.

Ya, I went to the drop saddle a couple months ago - my bad for not updating the post, so thanks for the shout out. I had changed out the springs to the lighter weight right away, and adjusted for the softest ride, and to your point, it made the ride nicer, but wasn't going to do anything to keep me from sliding off the back when hard on the throttle or in a windy day or bumpy road.

The drop does obviously change the look of the bike, there are so few solo springers on the road, so you lose a bit of the uniqueness, but I am very happy with the feel of the drop saddle. It is much more secure and supportive. (not to mention lower - not that that secure footing was an issue for me)

So for this guy, it was a good decision. I like!
