Drive pully comparison

Advice from you all please.

I have a 2008 Mastiff.

The teeth on my final drive pulley I think are past their used by date. Thus time to replace the drive pulley.

Ive located a possible replacement, but need some advice on it. As you can see below, my current one has a lot of metal in it, thus providing alot of strength for a part that I would assume requires it.

This is the possible replacement. Im unsure of what model its off. I was told its possibly off an 06 or 07 Big Dog. No more info was available. As you can see, there is a lot less metal in this part compared to my current one.

My questions are.
a. Will this item fit my bike?
b. Will the difference in metal content affect the strength enough for the job its designed for? (Did they increase the strength for later models for a reason?)

Regards all.

I think strength wise shouldn't be a problem. Don't know if it will fit you hub or not though just looking at it. Also doesn't match your rim either. That may not be an issue for you. There is another option a complany call Supermax. They will mill off the old sprocket and put there sprocket on there. No more squeak, and will wear a very long, long time. I have been running one now for about two years, no sign of wear and no squeak.

I googled it but only came up with the supermax milling machine, not a company. Do you have a link to the actual company?

Disregard, I found it. Ill be giving them a call. Thanks.

Has anyone done a SuperMax since he passed away? I believe a family member was looking at taking it over just wondering about the service/quality now? I can't find any info regarding pricing for an overlay over the exisiting Pulley, but if I recall it was not cheap?

That picture of your new pulley looks like the pulley on my 04, so not sure what else it will fit. 04 is a 65 tooth Pulley.

I am going thru pulley issues with Performance Machine right now. if the size of the replacement pulley is 1 1/2 inches, I don't think it will work. My 07 Bulldog has a 1 1/8th inch belt.

Thats a good point. Ill have to measure mine to confirm. Ive just finished pulling the wheel and pulley. Definitly needs attention. Bearings are stuffed aswell. I have those so will replace those while Im at it..

Not looking forward to the price of those supermax overlays. If they have changed management then I would definitly be interested in quality etc. Pics to follow.

Ouch, just spoke to Supermax. Vivian was very helpful. Normal price is about $580 (cant remember exact), but as my pulley is 1 1/4", there is a $50 retooling fee (1 1/2" is standard). Then to get an off colour (orange to match the bike) $25. So about $650 including shipping, insurance etc. Turn around is about 3 days, but you have to book a slot.
Hmmmmm. And a new belt on top of that. OUCH!!

Other options?
Is that price worth it?
How long should a stock pulley last?

Theres one on Ebay for a 09 and newer. Maybe it will work??

Holy shit batman!! The guy wants $400 for it? They are $280 new from BDM (billet though).

For once it looks like BDM may be the cheaper option. Looks like hell is freezing over lol.

I thought that was what I had read somewhere around $600. It's a HEFTY price to pay! However, from my understanding it last FOREVER! You will never need another pulley again, as well as takes care of any squeaking.

I have considered it as mine squeaks, and I hit something on the highway and it came up and bent the pulley a hair. I was going to buy a used one it get the overlay, the cost did deter me. I figured for $4 I can spray the dupont grease every 400 miles.

I'm waiting to find a good deal on one scoop it up and send it off to supermax some day.

If you have the cash I would do the Supermax. Nothing but good things by anyone that has it.

I went with Supermax and glad I did as I plan on keeping the dog a long time. If you talk to Vivian she will work with you on the $50 machine charge.
