Drive belt

Has anyone had any problems with thier drive belt coming loose? I get my belt adjusted and bam in about 400 miles it is loose again. If I stick the throttle to it the belt will slip on the rear pulley. This is becoming a pain in the ass. I had a new belt put on because it started to rub on the front cover and was slipping on the rear pulley, 400 miles slips under heavy acceleration on the rear pulley. I love the looks and the ride , but having to tighten a belt every 400 miles is BS. The belt will smack and rub my swing arm and rub the inside of the top belt guard. I am getting tired of this crap, now the inside of my spedo, that has already been replaced is ratteling around.

No offence but are you tightening the rear end up properly?

Have you received the new wider speedo mount?

Something's fucking fucked, or loose. Do you have the jam set screw still in the threads? If no, that might be a problem.

Yeah all is tight to specs. It is like the belt is stretching or something, the wheel etc. doesnt loosen. This has happened since I bought the bike new. It took me a little while to figure out what the banging sensation was under heavy acceleration, I thought it was the wheel trying to break loose, but it was the belt skipping on the rear pulley. I just dont want to have to wrench on this bike every time I ride or every other time. I think that it should be better then that.

The belt will stretch, but minimal and I mean minimal stretch. You are certain that the smaller of the two set screws is installed in your frame on the right side? You know what I am talking about, one is the actual adjusting set screw and the short one mechanically locks it in place once the alignment and belt tension is set. One way to determine whether the belt is actually stretching or the rim is being pulled forward is take a measurement of the distance of the axle to the swing arm counter bore where the axle sits inside, and see if it is actually moving or if it is indeed the belt.

I am going to assume, (and I know I shouldn't), that the transmission and engine and everything else is secure and not loose.

Something is not right and it should not loosen up that easy. If you have checked everything and are sure that the bolts are tight and the adjuster is snugged up and tight, time to look deeper such as bad belt, pulley, etc.

What did the dealer thing or have it occured to them yet? I know on mine it is still within specs when I do the routine oil change, have it adjusted at about 5000 miles just to be on the safe side, but it has never slipped or given me any problems like you indicate.

Good luck getting it resolve and lets us know what the outcome and cause are.

Yeah make sure there is this longer allen and then another one behind it to keep this one from backing out.

Have you checked all your motor and tranny mounts???
