Draining oil on 2004 chopper

Gone over the service your bike pdf many times and done a ton of searches. need a little help. The question I have is on the drain plug. Is it the actual long tube that goes straight down from the oil tank on the right side, if so do you take the tube off then undo some sort of drain plug and then put the tube back on or is there something at the end of the tube itself that I undo so the oil will just straight drain out of the tube. Any help would be great, thanks

If you go to the "how to"section,about halfway down the page (p1)between Marv and LDO you'll see Gas Man's post on servicing your bike,look at the picks,there is some of the drain plug.Not sure if that's exactly what your looking for but hopefully it helps.Also Raywood did a vid. on draining the "old" oil out of the system while running the bike.Again not sure if that's what your looking for but maybe it'll help.

There should be a plug at the end of that tube from the oilbag. The plug is usually held on by a clamp. Just unclamp and pull the plug and the oil will start to drain. Make sure the oil is hot when draining. Here is a pic a little blurry but you get the idea.

that helps me out a ton. Now I know exactly how to drain it. Saw the tube but could not see the end of it, so was not sure what it looked like. thanks again for the pic

After you get done with the oil change make sure you secure that tube with some zip tie. That tube has been known to get caught and rip out and you loose all your oil while riding. It has happened that's why I am saying it.

My drain tube bolt to frame between the shocks. 04 Mastiff. Change your plugs every oil change too.

I've serviced my bike many times and read up on Raywood's post regarding running the bike while draining the oil (oil filter off). My question is, with the oil filter off there wont be any pressure to force the oil to the top of the motor, right? Am I missing something? That can't be good.

I bought all my fluid at a local chopper motorcycle shop today. they did my service last year. Felt after the good write ups on here I could do it myself and save a chunk of change. I asked him about an oil recovery system. He explained that when he does service on big dogs he drain the oil, takes the filter off. then he puts the plug back in but leaves the filter off. then he starts the motor and lets some more of the used oil come out of the filter area. Then when he goods good oil, he replaces with new filter and caps the oil tank back off again. Thats why he says buy 4 or 5 quarts of oil not 3. People on here have said they have done the same thing, so that is what I am going to also do.

I never thought of that but it make sense, I wonder if this is truth or not. Anybody knows anything about this?

Yes there is still oil in the sump which will not drain out . When you run the motor the new oil will flow into the motor and the left over oil with flow out of the filter. Once you see clear oil come out shut it down and put a new filter on. On another note do not overfill your oil bag or you will get blowby. I wasrunning like 3 1/2 quarts.

Do all 2004's Choppers have this drain hose. I looked at the pics in the "how to" section and that shows draining the oil out of the tank. No hose there.

right side of the oil tank prolly the only hose that is black and not stainless.

I think 04 was the last year and in 05 they came out with the tanks underneath. Don't quote me on that but pretty sure.

not yet, just got all the fluids in that was recommended on this site, so next warm day I will hopefully knock it out. The how to has already helped me out a great deal.
