Double Tap Starting !

Curious if the following is indicative of an oncoming problem...

Have had a 07 K9 for about a year. I go through the normal starting procedure... petcock - choke - turn ignition key on - speedo needle goes up then down - press RUN button then press START. Never starts on the first push of the START button, but always on the second push - immediately after the first.

I'll bite on this one. Bluedog and I just ran into this on his 08 K9. It had been doing it for months, and getting worse. He replaced the battery, and it starts just fine now. You could also have burnt contacts in your starter. There are threads on here to show you how to clean them.

Before starting the dog, push down on the compression releases(you'll hear them click) then start it. Should start up right away.

My 07 k-9 does it every sense i installed the wire plus
X2

First push it sounds like the Battery is dead, next push it spins like crazy and starts. If I use the run button it wont start. But if I don't use the Run button it starts. The kill button works. This crap started when I switch to WP about 5 years ago, but once I learned what this dog liked I have not had a problem starting it.

Carlos,

I just installed WP and what I found is that the Run and Stop pushbutton only toggles power to the ignition module. It doesn't matter which one you use. So, if you push the Run button when the bike is running, it will also turn off. As soon as I turn the key switch on, my WP turns on the ignition module and it is ready for the Start.
