DOT sticker

I made my own .... took a picture of the stickers on a DOT helmet at a store and printed it on self adhesive address labels ... put some clear packing tape to make it water resistant and stuck them on .... I've had lots of cops check me out in the past 3-years and havent been pulled over yet ...

Heres my novelty helmet with home made stickers.

I bought mine at one of the local swap meets. One of the those venders that sells hats, belt buckles, dew rags, and every sticker you can think of.:whoop:

The whole idea of the sticker is that its approved for impact and safety. Just curious, why buy a helmet not dot or snell approved. Kinda defeats the purpose of wearing one.

some of us dont want to wear or dont like helmets.Im on the fence personaly .. i wear novelty most the time but a few instances lately have made me rethink that. the novelty helmet is light and well fitting..... without the sticker is an invitation for a citation although an officer with any knowledge of helmets certainly will know better.

Ive had too many buddy's die and a helmet could of save their lives. Bones heal. Brains dont. I rode 20 years without a helmet. Feel naked without one now

I just made my own.

You ask why we would do that? I'd rather have a helmet that is light and give me some protection and wont break my neck, then the bobble head DOT helmets that weigh a lot made out of 1" of styrofoam. So I found a helmet that has some protection, is light, and I put a sticker on it to make those that don't ride feel important.

DOT testing is a joke. We have the technology to make a great light helmet with the new foams that are used in sports equipment, but they cant pass the DOT puncture test. So because of that, DOT helmets are still made with styrofoam. Are you F**king kidding me. My hockey helmet has better protection. Thats why.

Better yet, take a look at these two helmets, both mine, and both size medium.

The tradeoff between the two is the more foam to pass the puncture test, or less weight. Think about it, do you have a better chance of going over the handlebars or having something puncture your helmet? I'll take the less weight so I don't snap my neck.

There are so many small lightweight DOT helmets now that it just doesn't make much sense not to get one. Plus in california the ticket is 185.00

Daytona helmets...... I have both the DOT Skull (shown on the right) notice the white DOT label........

Harley DOT_________________Daytona DOT Skull
http://www.daytonahelmets.com/home/day/smartlist_69/basiccustom_colors.html

and the eagle non-dot . http://www.daytonahelmets.com/home/day/smartlist_42/basiccustom_colors_novelty.html

Same shell on both the Eagle and the Skull, but the padding is less in the non DOT.

The one on the left is a $250 DOT Harley piece of ****. Big, bulky, catches the wind and pulls like a parachutte.........Ya, thats real safe.........

In NY, if you get caught wearing a novelty helmet, its a $250 fine. If you get caught with a DOT sticker on a novelty helmet, its a $1250 fine.

That would be the reason for the Daytona Skull helmet on the right that is DOT but not huge..... If I must wear a DOT, I wear the smallest one I can find.
