The tach has been working intermitently today the high beam indicator has been coming on by itself (if I press low switch, indicator goes off) and starter didn't want to turn over. I rode 1 mile and lost all electrical power and bike quit. Positive cable was loose, so I tightened it thinking this was the problem. Still no power. Battery has 12 volts. No lights or EHC lights when key is on. Any ideas?

MUST have at least 12.8 volts and should have more. do you keep the battery on a tender when you are not riding it????? every night!!!!! how old is the battery????

What wood said. 12 volts doesn't mean ya got any amps left in the bat. Also make sure your circuit breaker or fuse from the voltage regultor is not tripped. I would have the bat load tested, if bad replace and also while you have it out check your connections at the starter and the ground on the starter bolt. When bike is runnin you shoud be gettin over 14 volts back to the batt.

Lots of things get cussed at when it may just be the battery! Good luck.:2thumbs:

This sounds like either a low voltage or low current condition starving the EHC or ignition.

Start with getting the battery checked out. 12.8 volts minimum after a good charge and off the charger an hour.

Make sure all battery connections are clean and tight.

Make sure the smaller wires going to the battery that crimped connectors on them have good TIGHT crimps.

With the battery disconnected. Disconnect the harness connection to the EHC module clean out the old dielectric greas, dirt and debris and repack the connection with fresh dielectric grease from the automotive store.

Check and grease other connections you can gain access to under the seat area.
