Dog pops and hesitates when riding at a constate speed

Hey guys this is my first carb bike so this might be normal but i get popping and hesitation when I'm riding at a constate speed. Not all the time, and there is really not a pattern to it. The bike is completely stock, and the local shop said that it is jetted correctly for the stock set up.

Any suggestions or thoughts

Thanks

I have 2006 Mastiff (some what stock) . I would readjust the accelerator pump. If it pops and hesitates when you give it the gas then that is you problem. The next thing to do is change mechanics or visit a different shop and you'll be A-Ok :2thumbs: Someone at that shop is full of shit as a constipated elephant and that is a lot of shit. :2thumbs:

Bobby - the plugs are new and it happens any where between 2-3 RPM. The guy are the shop rode it and claimed the hestation didn't happen to him...You right, I may need a new shop.

Not sure what came in the Stock 06 for an intermediate jet. But I would be willing to bet that its running just a hair lean. Most manufactor's sell their bikes running a tad lean due to EPA regs.

Stock on mine was .295 bike was bone stock and it was coughing out the carb at steady speeds. I threw in a .31 and it never came back

Ask your mechanic what size jets are in your carb, if can tell you its the right size for stock then he must know what size you got. Willing to bet he has no clue.....

Like the Th3InfamousI said. You are lean. Depending on what rpm this is happening, this will tell you which jet is affected. It could be dirty!

I agree with the Th3InfamousI that it needs more intermediate jet. Most of the time if it is having a problem under 3,000 RPM that is it. Most of the 117's I work on that have pipes other than stock and a cold air intake/ high flow filter seem to like a 31~32intermediate jet with a 72~74 main jet. That should get you close enough that with a little time looking at the plugs and adjusting the carb you should be able to fine tune from there. Take a look at S&S Cycle | Carb Quick Guide and it should help you with the rest.

I would try turning the idle mixture screw counter clockwise about a quarter turn at a time and see if it stops. If your already more than about 2 1/2 turns out check the int. jet.
