Does Your Fuel Really Shut Off?

Here's my story. Went for a ride today. Parked the bike and went to sit down. Some guy walked up and said nice bike and something is leaking underneath. I got up to take a look. Sure enough fuel was pouring out of the overflow tube. So I thought OK I'll shut the fuel valve off. Well did that and it kept flowing. So jumped back on and came home. Unscrewed the drain plug on the bottom of the carb figuring the float was stuck. Well the gas kept pouring out of the carb with the valve in the off position. So disconnected the fuel line and sure enough the gas would not shut off. If it wasn't for the float getting stuck I would of assumed the gas is off. My question is how many of you know for sure that your fuel is off?

And where is a good place to get another? Donna? Curtis?

I do for sure...last time I took off from the house I forgot to turn it on and it died at the end of the driveway

Mine turns off -- of course mine is EFI and kill the power to the fuel pump and that's that!

I shut off the fuel and run the bike until the fuel bowl is empty at the end of every ride, (engine dies from fuel starvation so I know it works).

If you are looking for a good Petcock you need the one Curtis sells. That is the best Petcock I have ever seen and used. I have had mine for several years now and I love it. It comes with the hose, because is a screw on type. It screws on from the Petcock to the Carburetor, no leaks period. You know when it off or on. If its pointing at 12 O'clock the fuel is off. Turn it left 9 O'clock its in the Open position, Turn it right 3 O'clock and its on Reserve. The three positions sort of Click or have a distinct position that locks lever in place.

Just have to wait till the weather gets crappy and no more riding. Don't understand why it don't shut the fuel off. Not sure whats inside the petcock to shut it off. I know when I first received the bike it was very tight to move on and off. Then all of a sudden it worked really easy. Since the bike sat unused for quite some time. something most likely dry rotted and now keeps the fuel flowin?

Havent had the one on the ridgeback apart but have rebuilt multiple on dirtbikes. Dirtbike petcocks have a thick o-ring that looks like a smiley face, when it wears out it will not shut off and sometimes leak out of the lever

Thats most likely whats happening here. The valve was very hard to move at first. Most likely the o-ring is shot.

Not only does mine shut off on the prosport , but the mastiff shuts off in both on and off lol ,,,, I have to turn fuel on then back it off a bit.

GOLAN petcocks. The absolute best money can buy. Has the clicks so you feel the position.

One of my Triumps from 2001 had a petcock leak. Replaced it with a Pingel. Hard to beat a good Pingel but I guess sometimes you might not get a good one!
