Lee, it could be a grounded wire. I had a grounded oil pressure lite that drove me nuts (reason I have an oil gauge now) and it turned out to be a worn out wire under the tank. Those wires are packed tight in there.
Seems with playing around with the wires you got it working so sure sounds like a grounded wire to me. I would go over those wires again.

Look around in the battery bo for any worn wires. I have found a few there that were not route properly in my opinion or there was not enough slack. keep jacking with it. you'll get it!!!!

I took my EHC out today and I'm pretty sure there is nothing to show it has been bolted down.

I agree there may be a short somewhere - I did look under the tank yesterday and couldn't see anything. I've packed the wires in better and even wrapped some duct tape round after which made the tank slide into place a lot easier.

I'm going to leave it to the expert now before I take a sledgehammer to it - been a very frustrating weekend. Andy is picking it up tomorrow night.

Sounds like it may be time for a new EHC . I know they need to be bolted in and the connections suck when I have played with them. They suck down in there farther than you can physically push them. EHC was a dumb idea on a V twin.

I hope not Vegas - I would rather spend the money on a complete rewire than a new EHC and as Chacha said on another thread you must be able to get around the hand control issue if you do rewire.

That wireplus (I think that was it) setup may be a better option. They have a nice medium setup that retains the BDM controls. Might be worth spending the chedda on that over a new EHC. At least it would be a half way point.

The run and start functions are separate functions. BDM had problems with the earlier switches I'd suspect a problem with the switch assembly itself.
Sul is right regarding using jumpers to activate the functions. There is only one ground wire for all of the switches on each handlebar.

no - he picked it up Monday night but said he wouldn't be able to look at it til the end of the week. I did order a new switch assembly through Nelson last night just in case though.

well it looks as though the EHC has gone bad - not happy.

Been talking to Wireplus to see what we can do but don't really understand any of what he is saying. Andy (the bloke who I use to do the work) is going to give him (Marlon at Wireplus) a call to work something out. Looks like new hand controls, handlebars according to Marlon, the whole 9 yards. Pissed right off as I cannot afford all this stuff but don't really have a choice. Also, with new handlebars presumably means a new speedo to. Oh yeah, and a new key switch.

I would however, rather buy all that than buy a new EHC from BDM - at least I will then be able to trust that the bike won't leave me stranded somewhere.

Lee... if you look at the therad on wireplus, I think you have a "half way" pt that allows you to re-use the bdm controls.

Lee your correct, I have talked to marlon several times about this and although he can make a system that will adapt to your speedo and hand controls he strongly recomended against it because it will be another "weak link" in the system. The harness will adapt to the all the turn signals and comp releases without any issues. Here's an idea I was thinking of though. Weld a thin aluminum plate on top the the big dog control housing and then blend and polish it. Then you can look around and find some standard micro switches and driil some holes in the plate that you welded on and mount them. At this point you will still need a different tach/speedo but you can use a standard autometer speedo in your existing bucket. Just some ideas for yah.

Yeah either way it would look stock you just need to blend the radius. The reason I would suggest on top would be to gain a little more depth as the other switches may need more room
