Doc esc vs EHC RIP

Any suggestion on which one is better? Any issues or concerns with either one? Recommendations needed. Bike will run fine and then just cuts out while riding at various speeds.

This has been debated previously in other threads.

In the end, personal preference. Both use the TH-MHC as the controller.

The new Gen 2 RIP is a direct connect to the EHC connectors, no need to replace back bone harness like the Gen 1 and the DOC.

On the other hand, the EHC connectors are not waterproof, so not a bad idea to eliminate them.

The RIP's are made by the newly formed BDM and supported by Curtis (WSW) so that is a big plus in my mind.

Are ya sure about that?

You should do a search, you will find lots about them. Axel's new board is truely a 10 minute plug n play.

Its the same thing as DOC's ESC that I put in mine, have you installed one of these in your bike JJ?

Ryan you should check ignition and jetting and start checking volts to components could be a simple fix or did you all ready check?

I can only offer my opinion on DOC's ESC. Fantastic, easy, tip use plenty of di-grease, get u some shrink wraps and a good hair dryer and plan for about 6 -10 hours. I'm very novice with my chopper and did it with DOC's myself. Has the JST connectors so it's really just the harness. It took me longer because I checked, rechecked, shrink wrapped, check again, then done. Went for a ride!! No problems ever since. Also sounds like Axel is onto something with his solution.

I have not, I bought a TH-MHC and wired it in myself.

I talked to Jason 6moths ago and he told me he was working on a drop in version that would not require backbone harness to be changed, so no need to remove tank.

The rear harness is just the tail lights I believe.

@KaptinAmerika can chime in and confirm.

The rear harness is the main harness from the connectors under the tank to the ECH or TH controller not just the tail lights, and if Jason is working on a true 10 minute plug n play, it must be very similar to what Axel has ready now, Axel is very close, matter of fact some are already trying it out in their bikes,

The ESC and the RIP 2 are almost identical except the ESC has a few options that the RIP 2 doesn't. Voltage monitoring is one of them and no connector under the tank for the head light is another.

Again not my understanding of the Gen 2. The whole point is you did not have to remove the tank and change the backbone harness.

As you pointed out, I have not done one so I will defer to Curtis. @KaptinAmerika

I think your correct. The gen 2 is just the brain so to say. No need to replace the stock wires..which is easier but I would make sure you have absolutley no chaffing or worn connectors etc since the gen 2 is still $675. That would be a bitch to buy that and then have problems with original harness and end up having to replace that as well. Axles is the same way, but $300 cheaper so that is a serious option in my book.

RIP 2, Unless I'm seeing things, this certainly looks like a wiring harness, you boys are all wet on this and confusing the true plug n play with Axel's module. Do ya see that connector on the TH module in the pic? Ain't no way in hell that's going to plug into the ECH.

I wonder why Curtis has not weighed in on this?:oldconfused: I'll bet I know why:oldlaugh:

Yeah that certainly doesnt look look like just the brain. I was going off of what I remember Curtis saying and explaining. I do think that for the price, Axles is the way to go.

^^correct.

Agreed it is not a 1:1 direct swap like Axles, but it does connect to the EHC connectors and you don't have to remove tank and backbone harness.
