Got mine used in 06 with warranty left and 3800 miles. No real issues except the Stealer I got it from but used or new wouldn’t have changed that they just suck!

OLD DOG
first dog was a 04 107cuins, chopper, traded for new 07. k9.
the 107 cuins. engine was a lot smoother than the 117 engine. its taken 3.000 miles just to brake this engine in! [but it does have that ball grabbing
power in 3rd gear}:job: :2thumbs:

To do now... used, but I am getting ready to pay mine off after 1 more good run at the tables.

They were still selling high for used K9's when I got mine, it only cost me about $4,000 more than the best used deal I could find at the time, and I got the paint that I wanted.

Used...but that's how I buy most of my vehicles. I look for a good machine at a fair price. Bought by 04 Bulldog off the Chief of Carrier mantenance on the USS Stennis. Of course, that was the selling point...the thing was perfectly maintained and ran perfect.

But hey, New is always nice and Dealer's gotta eat too....

Used. I get have a tendency of getting sick of the same ride after too long. If I bought new I'd be upside down all the time. My Silver 05 RB may just put that to the test because I love that bike.

I would probably still buy new depending on the deal.
At least in AZ I'm not seeing huge price reductions. A friend of mine bought a used bike about 3 months ago after I bought my new K9. We haggled with the dealer for a long time to get a 05 AIH chopper for 19,500

4 months ago in AZ dealers were listing 05 big dog choppers for 25k
Maybe it's just AZ but I'm still not seeing anyone giving away these bikes

I never expected the huge drop in value on these, but I don't plan to sell for at least 10-12 years, if ever...

The bottom line - I paid for what I wanted and got it... even though 15 minutes before I sat on the K9, I told the salesman (and truly bellieved) choppers are cool to look at, but I wouldn't want one... I plan on riding it... :loony:

With a Big Dog though you can demand an ignition printout...For the new guys that have never seen one! :D
Take a close look at Ray's numbers... he has TWO DAYS (over 48 hours) just sitting at IDLE! That's more than most of us have at cruise RPM.

The mechanic at our dealership offers us a copy of the data sheet anytime they work on our bike. I suspect most people don't show much interest in the numbers, so they don't bother to print it most of the time - but it can tell part of the story.

Seems like a lot I guess but after 40,000 some thousand miles they add up. I just added up the hours between 2500 & 3000 and got 330 hours.
I have that sweet spot at 2700 rpm.

I got mine used, it had 2000 miles on it and 20 grand in upgrades, he had all his receipts for every bit of work ever done to it...it was in mint shape, although it would have been nice to see a readout on it, heck it would still be nice to see a read out...but I paid 23k for it. THe hardest part now is bringing myself to pay insurance on it since its paid for...LOL

If I had it to do over again, I would still probably buy used, as its pretty easy to find them black and chrome, and very well taken care of.

I bought mine new. It was a left over 07, so I think I got a deal.

I buy my stuff with the plan of keeping it forever.

I don't have to worry about losing money on the resale that way.

I actually made money on the old Harley I traded in. Altough it did feel like I was trading in one of my kids. Kinda miss the old thing.

I bought new.

I would buy new or used again.

Used: Must be low miles, in excellent shape, way I want it, good price.

When this one is paid off, I plan to pick up a used Ridgeback for ridding around here and work. Keeping the mastiff for the long comfortable rides.

I bought my 2003 Chopper used about a year ago. It was 4 years old with just over 1,000 miles on it. It had a few problems. Back tire was way out of round, so I replaced it. The rear brakes were shot. He probably wore heavy boots and did not realize he was riding the brake. Pads and rotor had to be replaced. It burped oil in the upper end and the carb plate was always wet with oil. I installed a puke can under the tank and replumbed the hoses off the heads. Problem solved. Not a scratch on the bike and it runs like a top now. I prefer it over my 2002 HD Heritage Classsic Softail.

And the price was right. Really low as the guy was going through a nasty divorce.

I got my 05 ridgeback used--back in august--off a guy locally. I had been looking at getting a K-9 for almost a year. When I rode the ridgeback, I was sold. I snatched that thing up the very next business day :D

Well mine was an impulse buy. I didn't care what it cost. Paid $29,000 in the spring of 06 for my 05. The 06 K9 next to it was going for $36,000 so the choice was simple. Sure I could of done better, kicked myself afterwards, but looking back now I'd do it again. No regrets. :2thumbs:

Bought mine used, 03 Pitbull, with a little over 6,000 miles. Runs like a top and I thought the price was right. If I had to do it again I would buy used. Although if I could I would go new. But I am happy with what I have.

Got mine used, 3rd owner with 3100 miles, no need to worry about getting a ding or scratches, trying not to :) don't deal with the dealer for service or warranty, wrench it myself or with the help from a friend who messes with Dogs,Harleys but startin' to like the new styles coming out of the Big Dog stable now so might try new one day! But it will have to be carbuerated to be XXX eventually
