HELP !

HERE IS MY PROBLEM :

04 Ridgeback, 107" Super G Carb. First run since being in my garage fior the Winter.

Filled it up with new fuel and took it out. Warmed it up and started to ride.

Ran perfect until about 10 minutes into the ride when the Throttle is released either to down shift or to simply slow down, the engine will burp and stall out.
It actually feels like it is out of tune. Starts right up and will do the same thing through out the ride.

Got it home and put it on the stand. Runs fine but when the throttle is snapped back to rev it up, it will stall out ! It will run and idle fine like it always has....

This is the first problem that I ever had with it and confused about how this can happen when the carb was never touched.

I changed the plugs and it still does the same stall... HELP !

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance:flag:

Check your gas cap and make sure the vent is not plugged. Maybe some fuel gummed it up over the winter. Can cause a vacuum in the tank. Easy to disassemble.

Good luck,

CFL,
Mine did the same thing. Ray is right. Check your cap(s). I had replaced mine and the new ones sealed really, really good and I ended up needing to not tightening them down so much. Works good now.

FOUND OUT WHAT WAS WRONG !

First, Thanks to everyone who helped me out with this problem:cheers:
I owe each and every one of you.

After trying just about every thing I could think of, and everything that was recommended by you, My neighbor made a comment about the RUN/OFF switch. He said hold it down to run and try to get it to stall out....

Guess What ? It did not stall out at all. As soon as I let the lever go it stalled
out. Bad F&$@*&&^)KEN Switch. Called Vickie and got a new on on the way.

Amazing how a $30,000. Bike can be stopped on a dime by a $30. switch.

Who Knew

Thanks again & Ride Safe:D

The 04's were the first year of the new controls so I agree with you Blitz. Doesn't make sense with the run switch (shouldn't call it a switch cause it's not).
I would keep an eye on it and see if you have the problem anymore!

Later,
Ray

You Were Right !

Thanks BLITZ and RAY, You were right, the switch was broken, but it did not correct the engine problem.

I Just do not understand how the bike can run like total crap from sitting.

Put in fuel stabilizer for the winter, just changed the plugs, and replaced the whole tank of fuel. It will start right up, but the more I try the more difficult it is to get started, it will Idle fine, Run with the choke pulled up, but as soon as you twist the throttle, and release the choke, it stalls like it either is getting no fuel or no air.:bang: All the electrical is fine, no shorts, no worn wires. The Bike is all stock S&S 107" W/ Super G Shorty Carb. Original Jets and Exhaust.

Thanks again for all of your input, but this is driving me crazy trying to figure it out. :bang:

The worst part is the nearest dealer is two hours away. Plenty of local bike shops, but trying to figure out my next move.

Have a great Holiday, and ride safe.

God Bless all of our Troops and GOD BLESS AMERICA:flag: :flag: :flag: :flag:

Hey Bro, don't use the "enrichener". I dumps fuel into the carburetor and will foul you plugs real quick. Just twist the throttle a few times to prime the motor then start the bike and use the throttle lock to hold the idle up till it warms.

The S&S doesn't have a "choke", it uses an enrichment devise the dumps fuel into the carb so only use it when you have to and once the bike starts then turn it off.

What size jets you got in now?

Ray

When you were cleaning thru your fuel system and gas.. did you bother to drop the bowl and clean it out along with the accel pump, and jets?

NO

No. I dont feel comfortable tinkering with that. I wish I could say that I can, but I dont.

After the Holiday, I will have to make arrangements to get it picked up and looked at by a Local Bike Shop.

Thanks for your input though.

Thanks

Thanks for the great "How to" with regards to the carb GASMAN. I have printed it out and added it to the BigDog Book. You should be in charge of their manuals. Just Super stuff. :D

With regards to me taking my Carb apart, YES, I do think that I can do that.........Putting it all back together and setting up everything as it was before I took it apart ? .....Thats the part that scares the Heck out of me.

BLITZ, Your Idea makes me feel better about finding out whats wrong with the bike:bang: .

I live In Cherry Hill, South Jersey. If anyone wants to stop by & give it a look, beers and dinner are on me....

Thanks again for all your input, advice and help, YOU GUYS ROCK !

Where approximately do you live in NJ?, Before you take it to a shop, Maybe we have someone close by to you that can drop by and take a look at it. At worse case your an hour and a half away from me.
That's what I'm talkin about. "brotherhood". Blitz - I don't say this to a lot of people, You along with a few others here are indeed class acts. :2thumbs:
