Do BDMs have known Ignition Module failures?

Riding home from work yesterday, zipping along Beltway-8 at 70 mph...exhaust pop and engine shutdown. I still had power and fuel.

Pulled over to the shoulder and check what wiring I could access. Tow truck completes my commute home with the K-9 strapped on the back.

Last month, I replaced the EHC with a Wire Plus kit. Last week, I replaced the battery. Everything electrical works, but the engine won't fire.

I suspect the ignition module or some connection to the module.

I have placed an order for a ThunderHeart ASM5012 module, because it sounds like a good upgrade, but I don't think it will solve my problem.

Any wisdom out there?

Thanks, K-9 Cor.

Hey Cor if you haven't already just look closely at connectors and connections be sure something didn't just rattle loose. A sudden crap out that sounds like something broke or came loose. I have had four such ephisodes with my bike and all were disconnected or broken connection. GOOD LUCK and let us know what you find.

I used to work in Channelview!! I was having a similar problem with mine this past summer. It ended up being that I needed longer terminal bolts for my battery. I was having to tighten them down every time I stopped. I had added to much to the positive terminal and the positive kept backing out while I was riding. It would die, but I would have lights. It was getting enough to run the lights and prime everything to start, but would click when I tried to start it.

I have the "loosening bolt on the positive" terminal syndrome, but I keep a wrench handy. It wasn't the problem this time.

I haven't gotten into the wiring yet, but I just got back from the garage, studying the BDM and WirePlus diagrams. I notice that the ignition module has power light on it. Although, you can't see it until you remove the battery covers, which is a pain in the ass.

I'll get to it tomorrow, in the meantime it's an opportunity to bond with the shovelhead.

Did you know that only certain qualified tow trucks are allowed to pick up vehicles on the Harris County toll roads...another pain in the ass.
